PGA Championship 2011 Cut Line: Which Big Names Missed the Cut and Why
While all eyes were watching Tiger Woods struggle and ultimately miss the cut on Friday at the 2011 PGA Championship, there are a number of other notable names who will not be playing this weekend.
Atlanta Athletic Club's course was acting like a carnivorous animal who enjoyed playing with it's victims before devouring them whole. Many players were wandering the course confused, wondering what was happening before they met their fate.
Martin Kaymer and Dustin Johnson were two such victims of ACC.
The pair who faced off against one another during a playoff in last year's PGA Championship are going home early.
Defending PGA Championship winner Martin Kaymer acted as though nothing was going as planned. After his round, Kaymer admitted he was very frustrated by the course. Kaymer finished Friday's round at +5.
One of Georgia's favorite sons, Stewart Cink did not make the cut and seemed a little embarrassed by his play on Friday. He explained to the media afterwards that it was going to be a short drive home to Duluth and that he expected a lot more from himself than his score indicated. Cink finished at +8 with a 78 on Friday.
This year's British Open winner Darren Clarke is heading back to his homeland early. Clarke finished the day with a 76 and had a round of 78 on Thursday.
Clarke confessed he has been very tired since his win at Royal St. Georges. We will take his word for it because he did look tired playing at the Bridgestone Invitational last week. Clarke finished his exhausting week at Firestone at +12.
Another Northern Ireland native and last year's U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell was also a victim of ACC. His experience playing majors and on Europe's Ryder Cup team were not enough to help him on Friday.
Then there was Tiger Woods who spent even more time in the sand and water then he did on Thursday.
Woods hit four balls in the water and found 22 bunkers during Friday's round.
He does not expect to play again until November when he will head down under to the Australian Open.
Maybe by then he will not only have a better overall game, but a new caddie and swing coach too.
