Tiki Barber: 5 Career Highlights for the Former New York Giants Running Back

Patrick ClarkeJun 1, 2018

Former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber is eyeing a return to professional football, specifically the NFL.

The 36-year-old Virginia native has been retired since 2006, but after failing to succeed as a TV reporter, financial struggles and a new-found confidence and passion for the game have brought him back to football.

Many forget just how good Barber was during his 10 NFL seasons, all with New York.

Barber rushed for over 10,000 yards during his career (10,449) and 55 career touchdowns. He retired at age 31, with a career yards-per-carry average of 4.7.

Barber worked out with the Miami Dolphins last week according to rotoworld.com, but was not offered a contract.

He is still a free agent as training camp closes and preseason begins, but expect a team to pounce on the veteran back at some point this summer before the regular season kicks off.

Until then, here are the five best plays from the retirement-shortened career of Tiki Barber.

Tiki Barber busted off the longest TD run of his career—and the longest TD run in New York Giants franchise history—on New Year's Eve 2005 against the Oakland Raiders.

The 95-yard trot capped off a 1,860-yard season by Barber (the best of his career) and earned the Giants the 2005 NFC East crown.

62-Yard TD Reception Against the Detroit Lions (2004)

Barber caught a screen pass from Kurt Warner against the Detroit Lions back in 2004 and turned the play into a 62-yard touchdown.

He finished the game with a team-high and season-high 102 receiving yards, but the Giants would lose the game 28-13.

Barber rushed for a career-high 13 touchdowns in 2004.

41-Yard TD Run Against the Kansas City Chiefs (2005)

Barber got away from half of the Chiefs' defense on a 41-yard TD run against Kansas City in a week 15 win back in 2005.

Barber finished the game with a Giants franchise record (which he would later break again) 220 yards rushing and two scores.

72-Yard TD Run Against the Philadelphia Eagles (2004)

4 of 5

In what was Eli Manning's first play under center for the Giants, Tiki Barber took a hand off right for 72 yards and a score. However, New York would lose its season opener at Philadelphia 31-17.

The run was the longest Barber would have all season and the third-longest of his NFL career.

50-Yard TD Run Against the Washington Redskins (2006)

5 of 5

In the final regular season game of his career, Barber willed the Giants to a 34-28 win over the Washington Redskins on the road, earning New York a wild card berth at 8-8.

He broke his previously-held franchise-record in rushing yards with a 234-yard, three-touchdown performance.

Barber broke away from the Washington defense late in the fourth quarter and scored the decisive touchdown with a 50-yard bolt to the end zone.

The play can be seen at 2:37 on the previous video highlight.
