PGA Championship 2011 Tee Times: Breaking Down the Friday Pairings

Mike LynchJun 7, 2018

It certainly was a wild first day at the PGA Championship.  Steve Stricker came within inches of shooting a record 62 and holds the lead.  Tiger Woods was briefly in the lead before suffering a complete implosion, finishing with a 77.  Rory McIlroy injured his wrist after hitting a tree root but remarkably continued and shot even-par 70.  His status is uncertain, but plans to play if he is incapable of causing further injury.

All times listed are EST

Stricker will be starting at 2:15 p.m. on the first tee.  He is joined by Miguel Angel Jimenez, who shot 69 and Paul Casey who shot 71.

Jerry Kelly is in second place with a 65 and will be joined by Scott Verplank in fourth place with a 67.  They will tee off at 2:35 p.m. on the first tee.  They were considered such unlikely contenders that they got paired with course pro Stuart Smith.

Shaun Micheel, in third place with a 66, tees off early at 8:05 a.m. on the 10th tee.  Martin Kaymer and YE Yang join him, looking to get back in contention.  Not many would have picked Micheel to be leading this group of former PGA champions.

Also set to tee off early is the group of Rory McIlroy, Charl Schwartzel and Darren Clarke.  We will see if McIlroy is physically able to join them at 8:35 a.m. on the 10th tee.

A good group to watch will be Matteo Manassero and Adam Scott.  Both are in contention after shooting a 68 and 69.  They are joined by Ryo Ishikawa, who had a complete disaster of a day with an 85.  The group tees off at 1:05 p.m. on the first tee.

Symon Dyson with a 68 and Trevor Immelman with a 69 are a solid pairing.  They start at 8:50 a.m. on the first tee.

Speaking of disasters, Tiger Woods is set to tee off at 1:45 p.m. with Davis Love III and Padraig Harrington.  Love III is actually in contention after an opening round 68.  Woods will likely need a brilliant round to make the cut.

Another group that failed expectations was Dustin Johnson with a 75, Rickie Fowler with a 74 and Sergio Garcia with a 72.  Starting on the 10th tee at 8:15 a.m., they all need very solid rounds.

Slightly less disappointing was the group of Lee Westwood, Jason Day and Matt Kuchar.  They all shot 71's and will tee off at 8:45 a.m. on the 10th tee.

Luke Donald and Nick Watney both opened with mediocre 70s.  They tee off at 1:35 p.m. on the first hole, along with Alvaro Quiros.  Following them in 10 minutes will be Phil Mickelson, David Toms and Vijay Singh.  They shot 71, 72 and 76 respectfully.

The live television broadcast will begin at 1:00 p.m. on TNT.  Online broadcast coverage will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the PGA of America website
