Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb Will Revive Fantasy Football Value of Larry Fitzgerald

John RozumJun 7, 2018

Here's how good of a WR Larry Fitzgerald is.

2004 was his rookie year, and he totaled 780 yards on 58 receptions that included eight TDs.

That year his starting QBs were Josh McCown, Shaun King, and John Navarre.

Just, wow.

The following season the Cardinals picked up veteran Kurt Warner, a QB looking to revive his career back to his days with the in-division rival St. Louis Rams.

Warner only started 10 games in 2005, but Fitz's play exploded, and he led the NFL with 103 receptions that accounted for 1,400 yards and 10 TDs.

The next four years (2006-09) would prove to be very productive as well, as Larry averaged 90 catches, over 1,200 yards and 10 TDs per year during that span.

Then Kurt Warner retired, and it appeared that Fitzgerald's productivity would drop.

In addition, Arizona no longer had his trusty sidekick Anquan Boldin around, as he bolted for Baltimore.

However, Larry still proved to be a man among boys as he accounted for 90 receptions, over 1,100 yards and six TDs.

And his QBs were Derek Anderson, John Skelton and Max Hall.

None of whom were established NFL quarterbacks like Kurt Warner, so it was like deja vu from his rookie season.

Except this time around, Fitz was still able to perform wonderfully.

Now we enter the Kevin Kolb era, and although he's no Kurt Warner, he's most certainly a more reputable QB than McCown, King, Navarre, Anderson, Skelton or Hall.

For those that had Larry Fitzgerald on their 2010 fantasy football team (guilty), he did have a rather solid season despite the QB issues.

Well, that should only tell you how much potential there is for 2011, as Kevin Kolb will make him an even more consistent WR (at least in terms of fantasy mumbo-jumbo).

Also, one other factor not actively discussed is the acquisition of TE Todd Heap.

For one, Kolb knows how to spread the ball around, regardless of who his targets are.

But the addition of Heap will give defenses another receiving threat to worry about, while Kolb has his Robin to Larry Fitzgerald's Batman.

In turn, this ups Larry's fantasy value even more, because having a solid QB with more than one threatening target is crucial.

Plus, Heap does possess the ability to stretch the field fairly well as a TE, and is also very reliable in clutch situations.

That only helps Fitzgerald, as he'll become more effective on deep comeback routes and crossing patterns.

So, if you are considering whether Larry Fitzgerald is a safe choice for your fantasy football team, you would be more than correct.

It will be an extremely disappointing year for football fans everywhere if No. 11 doesn't have another Pro Bowl/All-Pro season.
