College Football Predictions: Baby's Losers for Nov. 15, High Tide
This past weekend gave football fans some of the most shocking upsets of the year. From Wyoming handling Tennessee (pictured above), to Iowa stunning Penn State, and even Michigan squaring their shoulders to whip Minnesota and win the Little Brown Jug, upsets were part of the landscape.
This week we must face the possibility of another week to astonish as many of the top teams are going on the road. The reality is we could end up with three undefeated teams in Utah, Boise State, and Ball State.
Yet none of these will qualify for the BCS Title Game. Let's take a closer look at the weekend ahead.
BABY'S LOSERS 11/15/08
1) NOTRE DAME VS. THE NAVY (IN BALTIMORE)–There is pressure on Charlie Weis but, he does look to come back for next season? After that, the job is Urban Meyer's if he wants it. Can an improving Clausen make the difference? Baby's Loser, The Navy.
2) GEORGIA @ AUBURN–The Bulldogs are undisciplined, the most penalized team in the SEC. Some fans claim officials have it in for them because they are so talented. Along with Tennessee, the Tigers are the biggest disappointment in the SEC. Baby's Loser, Auburn.
3) MISSISSIPPI STATE @ ALABAMA–If the public believes Sylvester Croom will roll over for his alma mater they are mistaken. Look for a tough, hard-fought game. Typical SEC action. Baby's Loser, in a close one, Mississippi State.
4) OHIO STATE @ ILLINOIS–Revenge is the operative word here. Yes, the Illini have a great player in Juice Williams, but it is the Buckeyes who may have the defense to contain him. Pryor will be the difference for Tressel's Buckeyes. Baby's Loser, Illinois.
5) PURDUE @ IOWA– As startling as Iowa's upset of Penn State was, the question here is do the Hawkeyes have anything left this week for Joe Tiller's Boilermakers? In a game that should go down to the wire, Baby's Loser, Purdue.
6) NEBRASKA @ KANSAS STATE–The Cornhuskers are Dow Jonesers, up and down. While the Wildcats are only a shadow of what they were in the Bill Snyder era, it can hardly be all blamed on Ron Prince's coaching. In a tough one, Baby's Loser, Kansas State.
7) TEXAS @ KANSAS– Mark Mangino has created a strong program in Lawrence, and it is obvious why he is high on the Clemson vacancy list. If he had the personnel of last year this would be a toss-up.
Texas seems to be too strong for the Jayhawks but, could the suspension and dismissal of Longhorn Buck Burnette upset team chemistry? Burnette has apologized for posting an internet racial slur concerning the newly elected President, Barack Obama. We'll have to see how it plays out. Baby's Loser, Kansas.
GAME OF THE WEEK
8) CALIFORNIA @ OREGON STATE– Sometimes circumstances indicate what should be a classic battle. This one has all the elements of it. Both teams have outstanding coaching and are bowl-bound.
If Mike Riley's Beavers can win out they will go to the Rose Bowl as Pac-10 Champions since they defeated Southern Cal earlier this season. The Beavers lead the Pac-10 in time of possession with over 32 minutes a game and are No. 2 in rushing defense. Baby's Loser, in a tight one, California.
RACE FOR THE TITLE
NAME LAST WEEK MISSED THE YEAR/PERCENT
"12" 5–3 WYOMING, IOWA, MICH 71–17 81%
TIMOTHY 4–4 WYOMING, IOWA, MICH, TEX TECH 68–20 77%
BABY TATE WENT 5–3, MISSING WYOMING, IOWA, AND MICHIGAN FOR A 68–20 RECORD FOR THE YEAR AND 76 PERCENT.
The past week was extremely tough on the competitors of Baby's Losers. Wyoming was missed by every predictor except for Issac and Adam.
What did these two with the ancient Old Testament names know about the mysterious Cowboys who shocked the world with a 13–7 win at Tennessee? Inquiring minds would like to know.
A tip of the hat to Chase and Tony who, along with Adam, went 6–2 to lead the group. Chase and Tony's secret? Upset special picks of Iowa over Penn State. Aaron picked Iowa and Michigan to surprise Minnesota in the Battle For The Little Brown Jug. The Jug game was good to Kent, Dan, and Miami Mitch, who speared that upset.
Josh picked Iowa to upset Penn State and Michigan to upset Minnesota in Jug action. Daniel had the quote of the week, calling the Big 12 "The Circle Of Death." That would be a good name for an article!
6-2: Tony, Chase, Adam. 5-3: Aaron, Red Raider, Josh, Bobby, and JJ. 4-4: Colin, Cliff, Kent, Brad, Dan, and Daniel. 3-5: Issac, Michael, and Jon. 2-6: Mitch 1-7: Ryan. Thanks to everyone for playing and good luck to everyone this week!
