PGA Championship 2011: Tiger Woods Finishes Worst Round, Could Miss Cut

Kevin PahlauJun 7, 2018

Tiger Woods struggled during his first round at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Thursday and could miss the cut.

It is a bitter taste of reality for Tiger, who could be packing his bags and heading home Friday.

Woods began the day looking like he was back to his expected form. He was at 3 under after playing the first five holes.

Water and sand are what most people look forward to on their vacation and is exactly what Woods found at Johns Creek on Thursday.

Woods hit two balls into the water and spent more time in the sand than he would have imagined when he started the round.

Claiming three double-bogeys and five bogeys, Woods had the key ingredients needed to make up his worst round at a PGA Championship.

Tiger finished the day +7 with a 77. It was his worst round in a major since his third round, 81 at the British Open in 2002.

Last week at the Bridgestone Invitational, Woods found himself 18 strokes back of the tournaments' winner Adam Scott.

Just like his strong start and staggering finish in Atlanta today, Woods began his run at Firestone looking pretty good. During the weekend he began to fade and by Sunday he was not even close to being in contention.

Woods' poor shots are a result of still rebuilding his swing or inadequate progress with current swing coach Sean Foley.

Whatever the case, missing the cut at the PGA is a very real possibility for Woods. It may take a 69 on Friday in order for him to remain at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

There is no doubt Woods will be back at the driving range later on Thursday. He has to. Friday will be do or die.
