College Football Thoughts and Picks for Week 12: I Taste Some Upsets

Andrew BomarNov 10, 2008

This is a week with not too many special games out there. Does Georgia at Auburn really have that special feel to it this year? I'd say it excites me about as much as a Monday morning. How about Ohio State against Illinois? Two BCS teams from last year going at it. It just doesn't have that special feel to it.

This week leaves us looking forward to next week, where we get to see Texas Tech go to Norman to take on Oklahoma. We get to see if Utah can survive its last test against BYU and go undefeated and to a BCS bowl.

We might even see Rich Rod pull the ultimate shocker and go into Columbus and take one from Tressel in what was a very disappointing season for the Wolverines.

With all that I have just said, would you believe me if I told you that I cannot wait for this weekend?!

No. The marquee matchups are not there. But come on, it is still college football in mid-November, and crazy things have been known to happen on a weekend where nothing is supposed to happen. These are the most dangerous weekends for the teams that are supposed to be safe.

It's gonna be Florida against Alabama for the SEC Championship and the right to go to the BCS Championship, right? When things get penciled in like that, it is where the penciled-in marks get erased.

Florida has a matchup against a team coached by a guy that we call Spurrier. This may look like a gimme with the way that Florida has been playing, but so was the Ole Miss game, right? So was West Virginia taking down Pitt last year to go to the championship.

This being said, I would like to get to my picks for the week and to my upset specials for the week. I may have exaggerated a few of my points in the previous paragraph, but I have a feeling we will see a few upsets. None of the big boys go down, but there are a few pretty good upsets for the weekend to go along with some pretty good matchups across the country.

Picks of the Week

1. Florida 38, South Carolina 14—I was joking earlier. NO CHANCE!

2. USC 49, Stanford 10—Revenge is a you know what.

3. Ohio State 31, Illinois 21—Close, but ain't gonna happen two years in a row.

4. Oklahoma State 42, Colorado 24—OK State bounces back after beatdown.

5. Florida State 24, Boston College 21—Should be a good one.

6. Texas 45, Kansas 31—Kansas hangs in for a half, then Texas dominates.

Upset Picks

1. Auburn 24, UGA 21—UGA= Not Impressive. Auburn= UPSET SPECIAL!!!!!

2. Maryland 28, UNC 27—Maryland plays great at home and horrible on the road.

3. Cal 35, Oregon State 27—Upset technically but not really.

Blowouts

1. Alabama 38, Mississippi State 13

2. Penn State 45, Indiana 17
