2011 Fantasy Football Sleepers: Quarterbacks

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballJun 7, 2018

It’s easy to predict that elite signal callers like Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady are going to produce monster fantasy football numbers.

However, often times leagues are won because you find value late in your fantasy draft.

We like to call these guys fantasy football sleepers or undervalued players.

With that in mind, let's take a look at two quarterbacks that will be undervalued on draft day, however have the ability to be a valuable asset to your fantasy team.

Mark Sanchez, QB, New York Jets

2010 Stats: 3,291 passing yards, 54.8 completion percentage, 20 total touchdowns, 13 interceptions

Sanchez is not regarded by many as a serious fantasy football option due to his tag as more of a “game manager” than a playmaker. It is true he is buoyed by one of the strongest running attacks in the league and has the luxury of being bailed out by the stout Jets defense if he fails to lead his offense down the field.

Let’s not forget though, Sanchez is entering only his third season as an NFL signal caller and showed some promising improvements in 2010.

He increased his totals in nearly every category last year, upping his completion percentage to 54.8, his passing yards per game total to 205.7, and Sanchez tossed five more touchdowns while lowering his number of interceptions by seven.

Head coach Rex Ryan also showed more trust in Sanchez, as he threw 143 more passes in 2010 than in his rookie season. With his best receiver in Santonio Holmes re-signed already, Sanchez will likely continue to make gains in 2011.

Kevin Kolb, QB, Arizona Cardinals

2010 Stats: 1.197 passing yards, 60.8 completion percentage, seven total touchdowns, seven interceptions

It seems like fantasy football owners have been talking about Kolb forever. He was Andy Reid’s pet project for four seasons and slated to be the Eagles’ quarterback of the future until Michael Vick came along and stole the show in 2010.

None of this changes the fact that Kolb has all of the raw skills to be a solid starting quarterback, namely his mobility and cannon of an arm.

Kolb was recently traded to the Arizona Cardinals and will immediately be the team’s starting signal caller. The fifth-year pro couldn’t have asked for a ideal landing spot than the desert.

Arizona’s division foes in the NFC West allowed 77 passing touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks a year ago, and he joins a team that features one of the most dangerous receiving threats in Larry Fitzgerald.

Like any quarterback in a new uniform, Kolb will have to get familiar with a new offensive system, however once he hits his stride don’t be surprised if Kolb takes advantage of a soft schedule and post numbers that make him a weekly fantasy option.
