Floyd Mayweather: 5 Possible Fights for Money May after Ortiz Is Cashed

Mick AkersJun 7, 2018

As the Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz fight just a little over a month away most of the boxing community have their minds thinking of Mayweather who will Mayweather fight after he does what he should do, and beats Ortiz.

There are a few quality opponents who would give Mayweather a good, and a good payday besides Manny Pacquiao.

Here are the five fights Mayweather could take on next besides Pacquiao, once he cashes in on the Ortiz fight next month.

Andre Berto

1 of 5

Floyd Mayweather taking on Andre Berto would be like watching a violent chess match.

Although it might not be the most exciting fight to watch, it would be interesting to see the strategic moves both fighters would employ yo attempt to gain an edge in the fight.

In all the fight would be a great draw—although the average fight fan might not be pleased with the pace of the fight, and would be a solid win for Mayweather, adding another notch to his belt.

Amir Khan

2 of 5

A Floyd Mayweather vs. Amir Khan fight would be good test for Mayweather and Khan alike.

Mayweather will find out how he handles one of the harder hitting young-guns, and Khan will see how he measures up against one of the top fighters in his division.

Khan has already called Mayweather out and has stirred up some hope that a possible Mayweather-Khan fight could be scheduled for sometime in 2012.

A fight with Khan would also serve as a good tune-up fight for Manny Pacquiao, as the two are both aggressive, pesky fighters.

Sergio Martinez

3 of 5

In my opinion, a bout between Floyd Mayweather and Sergio Martinez would be the best possible fight for Mayweather other than a Manny Pacquiao fight.

Martinez is the No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world according to Ring Magazine and could give Mayweather problems in the ring.

Martinez has the power and the will to KO any fighter including Mayweather, but it would take Martinez knocking Money May off his game and being more susceptible to a big punch that could lead to a KO.

Martinez has already stated that he would take on either Mayweather of Pacquiao at 154 lbs, and I feel would pose the biggest threat to Mayweather's unblemished record.

Timothy Bradley

4 of 5

Although Timothy Bradley carries the stigma around with him that he cannot draw big crowds and pay-per-view buys, I think a fight with Floyd Mayweather and Bradley would garner more than enough viewers to meet any expectations going into a Money May fight.

Bradley has turned into more of a defensive fighter as of late and has not been the same type of fighter that he was before he won the WBC light welterweight title in 2008 and hasn't had a KO victory since 2007.

That being said, no one can out counterpunch Mayweather, and eventually, I would think that Mayweather would take over the fight, in which similar styles would favor the better fighter, and in this case. it is Money May.

Marcos Maidana

5 of 5

Floyd Mayweather could also face off with Jr. welterweight Carlos Maidana—a fighter who has already beat Victor Ortiz—in what would be a dark horse match up on this list.

Maidana bounced back from his loss to Amir Khan in December of 2010 by beating Erik Morales in a 12-round slugfest.

Maidana's fight with Khan was the fight of the year in 2010, and a match against Mayweather could yield similar results.

Maidana would have to move up to the welterweight division to face Mayweather—something I feel he would do in a heartbeat if given the chance to take on the best fighter active in the sport today.
