WWE Summerslam 2011: Summerslam "Non-Match" Predictions
We all know about the current Summerslam card. It has four matches set: Cena/Punk, Orton/Christian, Henry/Sheamus and Beth/Kelly. Not exactly a loaded lineup, if you ask me. Really—it could use a lot of work in the next four days.
Today, we are going to examine the "non Summerslam" Summerslam matches for this Sunday's pay-per-view. What that means is the matches that we have been given on free TV as of late that surely could have fit onto this Sunday's card...
Miz vs Rey
1 of 5Miz vs Rey has to be at the top of the list. If I were a betting man (and I am), I would say this somehow gets added before Sunday. The reason it has not likely has to do with Rey's injury, but at the same time, he is set for a WWE title match on Monday but can't wrestle Sunday?
Come on! Something is up here, and I do not have a clue what it could be. A big PPV payday for Rey and Miz surely will not be passed up here. Put on a good match, let Little Rey Rey win and head into Monday's Raw with some momentum and face the WWE champion in his hometown...
Cody vs Big Zeke
2 of 5Cody vs Zeke for the IC title was one most were predicting weeks ago. I was not one of them...until now. Cody is rising up to the main event scene, sooner or later, and Zeke...is not. Why not give Cody a chance on PPV to face the big guy?
It would kill time on a show with only four matches set, and it will not distract too much from the Cee Lo Green performance everyone is sure to love (or bash online). Smackdown needs some midcard fire right now, and this could be a fine addition to Summerslam.
Truth vs Morrison
3 of 5Take that, Little Jimmy!
R-Truth vs. Morrison is another no-brainer. Why didn't this get added to the card? To punish John some more and not give him a PPV payday? That would be the only logical reason because keeping Truth (hot act) off this show just does not seem right to me.
Truth could win this one, whether it took place on Monday or Sunday. He has way more upside right now than Old Johnny Boy. Just seems baffling to me that WWE did not make this match for Sunday with all the back story and build it could have been given, but hey, that is life for Morrison right now...
Dolph vs Riley
4 of 5Dolph vs Riley was a fun midcard act going for a week or two. This one I am not going to spend too much time with because it is pretty low on the totem pole right now, but a slot on Summerslam really could have gone a long way trying to establish Riley's rise right now.
Dolph can stay a heel and will likely drop the title soon. Drop Vickie soon, and maybe even move up the ranks a little bit to the main event level for awhile. Him and Vickie fighting a lot could play a part this Sunday, whether Riley is involved or not. Again, there is still time for this match to be added, so we will see...
A Squash Match
5 of 5Last but not least, a squash. Yes, a squash. This one borderlines on the dreaded "fantasy booking" that just drives me crazy. However, this one is needed right now in WWE's rebuilding phase.
A PPV payday/appearance for a Jinder Mahal or a Johnny Curtis (ha!) or even a Jack Swagger could really work out. A new audience would see him (PPV buyers only that I am sure are out there somewhere), and the get the taste of a big show feel, even though some have been there before.
A two minute squash for any number of guys could do wonders...just an idea, nothing more, nothing less. I hope you all enjoyed the "non Summerslam" Summerslam!
