The Arizona Cardinals and Oakland Raiders are going to face off against each other on Thursday night and it promises to be a good game. It will showcase a number of new additions for each team and it will also test both teams’ secondary, which lost their respective No. 1 corners this offseason.

The Raiders have been struggling for the better part of a decade and are hoping to improve upon an 8-8 season in which they swept their division. Having a strong start to the preseason will get the ball rolling for them again towards a playoff run.

The Cardinals have had a solid team over the past few years but struggled mightily last season due to their quarterback play.

The retirement of Kurt Warner decimated the team. John Skelton, Max Hall, and Derek Anderson were trotted out their last season to no use.

The Cards went and traded for Eagles backup Kevin Kolb, who will be making his debut Thursday night, which brings us to the key offseason additions for both teams.

Cardinals Key Addition: Kevin Kolb – The new starting QB is being looked upon as the savior of this franchise. The team has many other pieces in place, including All-Pro WR Larry Fitzgerald, to foster the success of Kolb. It is on him to carry this franchise back to glory.

Raiders Key Addition: Hue Jackson – While not a true addition, but rather a promotion, Hue Jackson will have to take over a team that went 8-8 under controversial ex-coach, Tom Cable. It will be on Jackson to continue his teams’ running success (second in the NFL last season) and improve upon their passing game and defense.

Cardinals Biggest Loss: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The Cardinals added what they hope will be their franchise QB at the expense of their Pro Bowl caliber No. 1 corner. A first round pick in 2008, DRC helped turn around the Cardinals defense and molded them into a playoff team during his first two years in the league. His production will be missed if Patrick Peterson doesn’t learn the NFL game right away.

Raiders Biggest Loss: Nnamdi Asomugha. The Raiders’ corner was one of the most feared in the league despite having just three interceptions in the past four years. Nnamdi also was barely in on tackles because his side of the field is so feared by opposing quarterbacks. The Raiders will now have to get used to being occasionally burned on both halves the field opposed to just one. Nnamadi decided to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason and attempt to make the playoffs for the first time in his eight-year career.

What They’re Saying: Rich Walkoff of the San Francisco Examiner thinks that Oakland should not be too excited by the results of their preseason games. The team lost Nnamdi Asomugha this offseason and the impact will not really be known until the regular season begins.

Arizona Sports.com reports that Head coach Ken Whisenhunt is looking for a solid outing from Kolb, but nothing mind-blowing. The team needs Kolb to be a solid, composed QB in the preseason to get into a groove. He does not need to be a star in the preseason.

What's Worth Watching:

Both teams lost their No. 1 corners and have young guys filling in. Patrick Peterson will be especially exciting to keep an eye on during this game as he plays in his first preseason NFL game. He was the Cards’ first round draft choice and should be a stud in this league.

The Oakland running game needs to be just as good as they were last year. If they fail tomorrow night against the Cards’ defense, it could signal something bad. Also look for the team to work on their passing game against a depleted Arizona secondary that may lose Adrian Wilson for the season.

Biggest Storyline:

Kevin Kolb's debut. After giving up Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second round draft pick, Kolb needs to play well to silence the doubters.

He has been a career backup but was primed to be the Eagles starter last season, until Michael Vick took the reins and never let up.

Kolb is going to have to start proving himself tomorrow night against the Oakland Raiders.
