Seahawks vs. Chargers in week one of the preseason may not seem like anything special, but I can all but guarantee you that this will be a huge game for both teams.

It’s not going to be huge in the win-loss column because I am pretty sure neither team cares what the outcome will be.

But this will arguably be the biggest game of the preseason for them.

This is the first chance both teams get to see what they really have going for them, and it will give us the best chance to see what we might be in for once the season starts.

Don’t get me wrong, preseason can sometimes be a drag, but in this case it’s an extremely important game.

What’s worth watching:

• The Seahawks signed former Minnesota Viking Tarvaris Jackson to be their quarterback moving into the future, and even supplied him with fellow ex-Viking, wideout Sidney Rice.

• It will be interesting to see if Jackson can shake the demons that haunted him as a Viking, where he was pretty much ineffective as a quarterback. The Seahawks have a few good pieces to put around him though offensively, so I think that may make a difference.

• Mike Williams has shaken off the rough start to his NFL career and is on his way to becoming a dependable play-maker at receiver. Having Sidney Rice is going to help him out a lot, and so should newly signed tight end Zach Miller.

• The Chargers are entering a year in which they desperately need to make that final push and show that they are legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

• Quarterback Phillip Rivers needs to have another good year, and so does tight end Antonio Gates. Defensively they did a great job by getting linebackers Takeo Spikes and Travis LaBoy into the fold, and I think we will see a better defensive unit in 2011.I don’t expect them to get many snaps, probably just a series or two, but the first impression is always lasting.

• It will be important for them to come out and act like they mean business, because if they can’t get it together this year I think their window to the Super Bowl will close faster than they could ever imagine.
