MMA Submission of the Day: Dan Hardy Taps to Guillotine Choke

UFC fighter Dan Hardy showcased his durability and resiliency to not be submitted when he fought UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre, but he does have several submission losses on his record, including this one.

In only his fourth professional bout, Hardy went to the the U.S. to fight Pat Healy for the Absolute Fighting Championship in 2004. Healy took a 7-6 record into the fight, which included a split-decision loss to Chris Leben.

Hardy opened the fight with punches, knees and kicks, but was taken down quickly by Healy. Hardy tried to reverse the position but could not get his opponent down.

Healy would have a point deducted for hitting Hardy in the back of the head. After a short break in the fight, Healy immediately took Hardy down and locked on a guillotine choke. Hardy had no choice but to tap or go to sleep.

Both fighters would eventually make it to the Ultimate Fighting Championship years later.

Healy would have only one fight under the UFC banner. He lost by rear-naked choke to Anthony Torres at UFC Fight Night 6 in 2006. He is still employed by ZUFFA and is fighting for Strikeforce where he most recently defeated Lyle Beerbohm in February.

Hardy is currently in the UFC with a 23-9-1 record. His UFC career consists of four victories, but he is currently trying to break a three-fight losing streak with losses to Carlos Condit, Anthony Johnson and St. Pierre.

Hardy is one of the UFC's biggest stars from the UK, but his job will be on the line when he takes on Chris Lytle (30-18-5) at UFC Live, August 14. The fight will be broadcast on Versus.
