The Road to WrestleMania XXVIII Should Look Like This

Marc QuarantaJun 7, 2018

The WWE is hotter than the scorching heat of the summer. WWE's biggest pay-per-view of the summer is hotter than it has been in years.

Not one word can describe it, but WrestleMania XXVIII may be the biggest show in the history of the World Wrestling Entertainment.

A couple weeks ago, I wrote what the WrestleMania XXVIII card should look like, but I want to go into more detail and tell you how it will all go down starting from this Sunday at SummerSlam.

SummerSlam Aftermath

1 of 19

The SummerSlam buildup has been fantastic (for the two championship matches that is). It'll be John Cena vs. CM Punk for the undisputed championship, and as of tonight Triple H is the special guest referee.

This can go down a couple ways. Triple H can call it right down the middle, trying to prove his loyalty to his new position of power. That way, either Cena or Punk could win. Or, Triple H will cost Punk the championship.

One thing will happen: Both Cena and Punk will at one point get in Triple H's face, and he will get right back in theirs.

The way I see it happening:

CM Punk and Triple H have an altercation, but in the end Punk will hit Cena with the G.T.S. As much as Triple H doesn't want to make the count, he will...slowly...and Punk will be the undisputed champion.

This will lead to...

Night of Champions Goes No Holds Barred

2 of 19

John Cena vs. Champion CM Punk at Night of Champions in a no-holds-barred match.

This is the point where Triple H turns heel. He will be a present-day Vince McMahon, trying to keep the belt off of Stone Cold, by deciding that Punk as a champion is bad for business.

John Cena will deserve his championship rematch since he was half the WWE Champion.

Triple H will give Cena his opportunity, and now he not only wants the belt off Punk, but he wants Cena to hurt Punk, put him in his place and teach him a lesson in respect.

During the match, Triple H will try to interfere and cost Punk the championship, but he will fail and end up costing Cena the WWE Championship match.

CM Punk retains in a hardcore match, and that sets up...

A Game of Hell in the Cell

3 of 19

The night after Night of Champions, John Cena calls out Triple H and yells at him because he got involved in the match and cost Cena the title.

Of course, Triple H won't stand for it (being the boss and all) and explains to Cena that he's had three opportunities at silencing Punk and hasn't been able to do it. Cena doesn't get another shot. Cena finally starts to show the attitude that the WWE Universe has been begging from the PG superstar and drops HHH with an AA.

HHH crawls to a mic and fires John Cena.

The next week, Triple H will say that since no one can get the job done for him, he'll just do it himself and makes the match.

HHH vs. the Champion CM Punk for the WWE Championship...inside a Hell in the Cell.

The match would be brutal, and the promos leading up to it would be golden. In the end, CM Punk would win a great back-and-forth match and remain WWE Champion.

This would set up...

The Champ Is...Returning

4 of 19

At this point, Triple H would absolutely lose his mind. He will become obsessed with taking the belt off of CM Punk and makes a match for Vengeance between him and Punk, once again for the WWE Championship.

CM Punk would come out and because of his faith in himself and his ego of being, "The best wrestler in the world," he would welcome the idea of putting another hurting on "The Boss."

This is where it picks up.

Michael Cole would be named temporary Raw General Manager for one night only. He would announce to everyone that Triple H would not be there in attendance because his wife Stephanie asked Triple H to arrive at the WWE Corporate office for a meeting to make his position permanent. (Of course there would be cameras following his movements in the office)

That is when Stephanie would come out and confuse everyone. She says that she got a message from Michael Cole to meet Triple H at Raw. Cole is confused and says he didn't send her any message. HHH gets on the Titantron, and Triple H and Steph have a laugh over the confusion.

John Cena's music hits and Triple H's face goes pale. Cena corners Stephanie and lifts her up for an AA if HHH doesn't rehire Cena and put him in the match at Vengeance. HHH agrees out of fear for Steph.

(Once again, we would see a fire lit under John Cena's ass.)

Vengeance would be a triple threat match for the WWE Championship: HHH vs. Punk vs. Cena.

This leads to...

Survivor Series Brings It

5 of 19

Vengeance would put an end to the Cena-Punk feud and open up for the Great One.

Cena would open up Raw the night after Vengeance and demand to talk to Punk, but will instead get a surprise appearance by the Rock. The Rock would make fun of Cena about not being able to beat Punk. They would have a war of words about who really knows wrestling.

They would challenge each other to captain a five-on-five traditional survivor series elimination match. Neither one would compete but instead would pick teams and coach.

The match would happen, and one guy's team would win and get the upper hand on the other.

(It doesn't matter who's team really wins because the match isn't about the 5-on-5 but the Rock-Cena confrontation.)

After Triple H's recent actions, he would get the same treatment that he gave Vince McMahon months earlier except this time he would get it by...his own wife. But he wouldn't be fired, he would be suspended until further notice.

CM Punk would then go on to feud with a new No. 1 contender for the next two pay-per-views (Survivor Series and T.L.C.) and would retain the belt both times and be champion going into the Royal Rumble.

The Royal Rumble: Everything on the Line

6 of 19

No matter what article you read, and no matter what the topic is about, there is always one thing that seems to be certain with every WWE fan out there...

There are a lot of potential WWE/World Champions in the company. Usually there are a select few that could really be champion, and the rest are a couple notches below. Not in today's game. There are a lot of guys that can wear the gold.

Punk, Cena, Orton, Christian, Del Rio, Sheamus, Wade Barrett, The Miz, Mysterio, Kane, Big Show, Mark Henry, R-Truth, John Morrison, Daniel Bryan and the list could probably go on.

So what does the WWE need to do...simple.

HHH returns after his two-month suspension is lifted. He returns in a worse mood than when he left.

He announces that for the first time in exactly 20 years, the WWE Championship would be on the line in the 40-man Royal Rumble in his final attempt to get the championship off of CM Punk.

This is great for several reasons: The Royal Rumble winner has been predictable in the last couple years. If a man returns from an injury (Edge, Cena, HHH, Taker), he will win the Royal Rumble. Furthermore, it would be a legit way to take the belt off Punk without making him look weak in any way.

Also leading up to the Royal Rumble, when Triple H announces Punk's title will be on the line, Punk says that he knew HHH would return with a stick up his ass, so he took some things into his own hands. Punk announces that at the opening of the Rumble, he will drop a bomb on the WWE Universe and HHH.

This leads to...

Punk Has...No Chance in Hell...of Winning the Rumble

7 of 19

Punk and Triple H open the Royal Rumble standing in the middle of the ring.

Punk said the reason Triple H was suspended was because of him, not because of Stephanie. He told the board that HHH was drunk on power and starting to lose his mind, and Punk was worried about the company (sarcasm, he just wanted to stick it to HHH). He then goes on to say that he knew once HHH was gone that things would get better (which they did).

He than admits that he was wrong and tells the WWE Universe that it's better to deal with the devil you know than the devil you don't know, and that someone has a proposition for HHH.

No Chance in Hell! Vince McMahon returns to the WWE for the first time in months and says that he wants his company back. He'll be around when HHH realizes it's in his best interest to give it up.

CM Punk will also be eliminated from the Royal Rumble match, therefore losing the WWE Championship.

The winner would be someone young, upcoming but deserving of the belt. Let's say it's Sheamus, and because of his win, he would walk over to the Raw brand as Champion.

What would all of this do?

The Elimination Chamber

8 of 19

The first time there were two elimination Chamber matches in the same night was No Way Out 2008, when it featured a Raw and Smackdown match. The great thing about this? Neither one was for gold, but for the No. 1 contender for WrestleMania.

Because the Rumble winner was champion instead of No. 1 contender, each championship match would need to be created in this event.

This would give us four matches that meant something (WWE and World Championship No. 1 contender matches, and then WWE and World Championship matches).

The card could look like:

CM Punk vs. champion Sheamus for WWE Championship

Wade Barrett vs. Champion Christian for the WWE Championship

Smackdown No. 1 Contender's Elimination Chamber match: Randy Orton vs. Ezekial Jackson vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Mark Henry vs. Kane.

Raw No. 1 Contender's Elimination Chamber Match: John Cena vs. The Miz vs. R-Truth vs. John Morrison vs. Alex Riley vs. Dolph Ziggler.

HHH and Vince McMahon have a contract signing to have a match at WrestleMania for control over the WWE.

The Biggest...Grandest Stage in History

9 of 19

WrestleMania would all be set up from these coming months. The craze for CM Punk would continue to ride high, and we would get new exciting feuds for the championships.

The card looks like this...

The Rock vs. John Cena

10 of 19

The buildup is there, and this is the only one that will officially happen (as of now).

The Rock has already stated he will be at Survivor Series, and there are rumors of Team Rock vs. Team Cena, so this one has a high chance of running similar to the way I wrote.

WWE Championship: Sheamus vs Dolph Ziggler

11 of 19

Dolph will spend the months leading up to Mania defending the U.S. Championship against Alex Riley, and once he drops the title to A-Ry, he will drop Vikki, and then he will be hot.

Dolph will challenge Sheamus to the WWE Championship.

Dolph's time won't come yet, though, and he will lose the match to Sheamus.

The only reason this is the only match I've predicted the outcome is because...

WWE Championship 2: Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio

12 of 19

This is one that will never happen because rumor is the WWE wants Alberto Del Rio to be champion when the WWE goes through Mexico in the fall, but they should hold off.

Sure it would boost awareness in Mexico, but they are missing on the surprise element. We already know Daniel Bryan is cashing in his briefcase at Mania, but why not throw the Universe a curveball and have Del Rio cash in as well?

Give WrestleMania the surprise "anything can happen on this night" factor it once had.

Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio for the WWE Championship.

World Heavyweight Championship: Fatal Four Way

13 of 19

Wade Barrett vs. Christian vs. Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan

Wade Barrett beats Christian at Elimination Chamber to become champion going into Mania XXVIII.

Christian invokes his rematch clause for Mania.

Randy Orton wins the Smackdown No. 1 Contender's Elimination Chamber Match.

Daniel Bryan cashes in his Money in the Bank.

An exciting four-way match not seen in a Mania main event since WrestleMania XVI, and it also gets three new faces in the Main Event of Mania.

The Miz vs. A Returning Chris Jericho

14 of 19

The Miz has been the most egotistical, charismatic, loud-mouth superstar over the last year. Why not put him up against the most egotistical, charismatic, loud mouth superstar over the last decade?

These two would put on a great feud, with instant classic promos.

'Nuff said.

Intercontinental Championship Scramble Match

15 of 19

Over all the chaos leading up to Mania, EZ Jackson will lose the championship (probably to Cody Rhodes).

The reasons for this match are simple:

1. It would give some guys the platform to show off their abilities.

2. WrestleMania needs a chaotic, guys-flying-everywhere match (since the show lost MITB).

3. HHH would make it an inter-brand match to make for more competition (like MITB when it was on the show).

The rules are that there are as many pins as possible over a time limit (let's say 15 minutes for Mania 28) and the guy to get the last pin before time expires walks away with the championship.

And I see:

Cody Rhodes vs. EZ Jackson vs. Ted Dibiase vs. Evan Bourne vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Jack Swagger vs. Mark Henry vs. Zack Ryder.

United States Championship: A-Ry vs Skip Sheffield

16 of 19

Read an article about this guy—you know, the guy who got injured so quick and for so long that no one even knows who he is—and it will tell you that this guy has what it takes.

Apparently, this guy is good. He will have to slowly get back into the ring though and will need build up to get to the top. This is a good start.

Alex Riley defending the U.S. Title against Skip would be a nice way to open the show.

CM Punk vs. the Undertaker

17 of 19

A lot of people might not like this, and many more want to see CM Punk vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin, but I want to see this for a simple reason.

"The Best in the World" vs "The Streak."

CM Punk is the hottest thing in wrestling, and the Streak is the hottest thing in Mania history.

People will say "we've seen this before," but that makes it good. This history can make it good, just like HBK and Taker before and Taker and Triple H last year.

This would be good.

Winner Gets Control of the WWE

18 of 19

This is why I don't want CM Punk facing Stone Cold Steve Austin.

When Vince and HHH agree to fight for control of the company, Vince knows (like we all do) that he can't compete in the ring anymore because of his health, so he fools HHH into thinking that he can. They sign the contract and Vince reveals that HHH didn't sign a contract to face him but to face Vince's oldest enemy...Stone Cold Steve Austin.

If HHH wins, he is the official C.E.O. of WWE.

if Stone Cold wins, Vince is once again C.E.O. of the company.

The history of HHH and Stone Cold would make for great promos, and the history of Stone Cold and Vince would make for a great storyline.

HHH would of course need to win, so would Austin come back just to lose a match? Why not? This match would probably make him a lot of money.

What Do You Think?

19 of 19

Do you see it happening? No? That's OK, I don't either. If it did, it would be the greatest WrestleMania of all time, but I don't think the WWE will drop the ball that they have going right now.

So when the time does come and the WrestleMania XXVIII card starts to be made up in reality by the WWE, I think we are going to see one of the best ever.
