Floyd Mayweather Wants Amir Khan to Face His Fighter, Jesse Vargas
Fighting Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs) has been a goal for 25-year-old Amir Khan (26-1, 17 KOs) to shoot for next year.
With Khan's recent victory over Zab Judah, many found Khan's goal of landing a fight in with Mayweather in 2012 quite plausible.
Now Mayweather, once quick to say a fight with Khan could easily happen, is suggesting maybe another fight should happen first with Jesse Vargas (16-0, 9 KOs) as the opponent of choice.
Vargas is a 23-year-old fighter trained by Mayweather's uncle, Roger Mayweather, and fights under the Mayweather Promotions banner.
According to Fight Hype, Mayweather had this to say:
"Jesse Vargas wants to know why Amir Khan is ducking and dodging. Yeah. He's asking for him. Everybody is ducking and dodging him. He's my fighter and he wants him.
"
Mayweather also responded to questions about Khan's desire to face him, saying, "He don't really want that; not selling 2500 tickets and having a bunch of giveaways. No, he don't want that."
Khan said:
"I'm not a big enough draw to fight in 2012...and Victor Ortiz is right now? No disrespect to Victor Ortiz. He's a great fighter and a very good friend but he's fought on my undercard twice. I'll be ready to fight Floyd in two fights time. If he wants to fight this year I would, but Mayweather only talks down on fighters who are threats to him.
"
So, fight fans, what do you think of Mayweather's assessment of Vargas being a good opponent for Khan?
Also, what do you think about Khan saying Mayweather only talks down those who are a threat to him? Comment below and tell me what you think.
