WWE Raw Preview: August 8th, 2011 and TNA PPV Thoughts

Justin WatryJun 3, 2018

Let me start with the positive: Tonight is Monday Night Raw. It is the go-home show for the Summerslam show this Sunday live on pay-per-view. Tonight, WWE needs to hit a home run. Really.

With only a few of the top matches official and a few under-card bouts, they need to deliver a great show tonight and one that will carry its buzz for another six days. Can they do it? Let's see what is announced for tonight...

1. Contract signing between CM Punk and John Cena for the WWE Undisputed title match at Summerslam 2011. OK; I can live with that. Contract signings are usually pretty fun and should end the show on a good brawl between the two men. No complaints from me.

2. Both CM Punk and John Cena in action (no opponents' names). This one worries me. Do we get the usual "tag team partners that hate each other" story with them teaming up? Do they face Truth and Morrison respectively, perhaps?

I don't know. I am not a fan of "fantasy booking," so I am trying to stay away from that.

What I did enjoy the past month or two has been Punk limiting his matches on free TV.

Punk is a hot property right now. Make people pay to see him wrestle! I hope this turns out fine because seeing Cena and Punk in action in "meaningless" matches on Raw could really hurt their storyline going forward. We shall see in a few hours.

Now to the negative thoughts of the day. I really do try to stay positive in life. I really do. I don't curse much. I try to be nice at all times (if not playfully sarcastic). I try.

Sadly, TNA delivered a PPV last night. What's that? You missed it? You didn't know about it nor care? Alright, I understand.

However, they still put on a show, and well, it was a stinker. I am not going to rant too much here, but it just seems each TNA PPV gets worse and worse.

Their X-Division show was laughable at times, and the ones before that were just so irrelevant it is not even "rant worthy" anymore.

Few quick points before I am outta here. First, RVD didn't job for Crimson—big surprise! Lynn is back to add to the retirement home feeling. The live crowd sucked big time (non paying tourists will do that to your company). Anderson continues to lose (which I like), and Abyss looks to be turning face, as Angle won the World title and looks to be turning heel.

My oh my! More wacky turns and twists in TNA! That main event was so slow and bad, my thoughts on Sting as the Joker do not even seem relevant anymore, especially with Hogan hobbling down to the ring...IN 2011!!!

The road to Bound for Glory does not look pretty, but at least Raw is tonight and Summerslam is right around the corner...
