Early WWE Raw Preview: The Ever-Exciting Contract Signing
Last week on Raw, Chief Operating Officer Triple H revealed the fate of the WWE Championship, a title both CM Punk and John Cena hold. Both wrestlers have a legit claim to the title, and the undisputed champion will be determined at the biggest show of the summer, SummerSlam.
As of this writing, there is not much confirmed for tonight’s edition of Monday Night Raw. Last week some people say that WWE dropped the ball on the flagship show. Can they make up for the disappointments from last week? Well, here’s what’s confirmed so far for tonight.

WWE Champions CM Punk and John Cena in action
WWE does not confirm who they will be facing, only that they will be in action. They also don’t state what kind of match we’ll see. Could Punk and Cena being going one-on-one against different opponents or will we get some sort of tag-team match?
Personally I’m hoping for a tag match. That way another feud can be included in the main event. Perhaps they’ll give us Punk and R-Truth vs. Cena and John Morrison, or some kind of combination of that. We could also see Kofi Kingston and Alberto Del Rio included in that.
It would be nice to see two other superstars get the chance to wrestle in the main event instead of seeing Punk and Cena get random opponents and one of them get the main event spot over the other.
CM Punk vs. John Cena: SummerSlam match contract signing
The only other thing confirmed for tonight is the ever-exciting contract signing. I never got the point of a contract signing, especially one six days away from the event. Why hype a match for weeks only to make it official days before the show? Granted, this match was announced last week, but still.
The contract signing is a familiar event in wrestling, and the outcome is always quite familiar as well. Every contract signing is usually ended in one of two ways.
The first way is someone interfering. A superstar will come to the ring saying they deserve a shot at the title and then are included in the match. The other scenario here is that someone just simply runs down to the ring and attacks one or both men signing the contract.
The second way is one of the signers attacks the other. The outcome of that usually ends with someone through a table.
It’s getting old. TNA tried something a little different this past Thursday when Sting and Kurt Angle signed the contract then said how much they respected each other and why they need to win. It was different, but very boring.
So what will happen? Will someone be going through a table or will we see an uneventful contract signing?
Continuing storylines
While there is nothing confirmed with these following storylines, we’ll no doubt see them continued tonight.
First we have Beth Phoenix’s heel turn. To me Beth turning, and Natalya going heel on SmackDown, is definitely what the Divas Division needed. The Divas lacked legit heels and Phoenix and Natalya can provide that with their size and power. It will be interesting to see how they develop this story of Beth being a monster and Kelly basically being a Barbie doll.
For the past few weeks Mr. Money in the Bank Alberto Del Rio has been crossing paths with Kofi Kingston. They each hold a victory over each other. Will we get the rubber match tonight or will it be announced for SummerSlam?
We also have Morrison vs. Truth. Last week Morrison was all but buried in a tag match in his first match back from injury. Can Morrison finally get his revenge on Truth or will he wait for the big stage?
Then of course there’s Zack Ryder. For the past two weeks he’s made appearances on Raw in matches. Will we continue to see the Long Island Iced Z? Or will the WWE Internet Champion be put on the back burner once again?
This is the go-home episode of Raw before the biggest event of the summer. Let’s hope WWE can deliver and give us something great.
