Tiger Woods, a Pie-in-the-Face, and He Is Who He Is

Tom EdringtonJun 5, 2018

Would someone please hand Eldrick Woods a towel so that he can wipe off that pie that former caddie Steve Williams hit him in the face with on Sunday?

We simply cannot escape the drama.

Far removed, make that 18 shots removed from the impressive performance of one Adam Scott, there was Woods languishing, busting drivers off the tee and into the trees and continuing to show confusion as to which putter he should miss with, Scotty Cameron or that dastardly little Nike flat stick.

And just when Eldrick thought it was safe to jump on the G-10 or whatever it is he flies these days, he catches a face-full of a Steve Williams gloat-pie.

So there was Stevie acting like the 47-year-old guy having a mid-life crisis and throwing the fancy new girlfriend in the face of the old wife/girlfriend, so to speak, hitting Elrick with a face-full of Adam Scott and those dreadfully hurtful words that "this was the best week of my life" line that simply told us that perhaps Stevie is a lot more miffed by Eldrick than we originally thought.

Now, as if we weren't looking forward enough to the PGA Championship this week, there's nothing like a little alpha-male tussle and a he-said, he-said ongoing tale of how exactly Williams was relieved of the Eldrick bag.

Of course you know that Stevie is chirping like a sparrow, giving interviews and generally acting like a guy who was just released from prison, which perhaps lets us know that working for Eldrick isn't all that rosy of a gig if you know what I mean.

Now, can anyone out there simply imagine Eldrick not telling the truth?

Who wouldn't believe everything that the Count of Montetruthco tells us?

Who out there can fathom that Woods would ever raise his hand and swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

Well, the truth is, Adam Scott has Eldrick's old swing, he has his old caddy and he took over Woods' personal stomping grounds last week.

While Scott played precision golf and looked pretty good with that broomstick he putts with, Woods simply looked like a guy who is still searching.

Woods has been searching for a year now with his little swing guru, Sean Foley.

He's looking for an identity.

He simply doesn't have one right now.

The only thing Eldrick has shown us, to put it as he most often does is:

He is who he is.
