2011 Fantasy Football PPR Running Back Rankings

Here’s a look at my 2011 running back rankings for those of you playing in PPR leagues. Click here for non-PPR fantasy football running back rankings.

1. Arian Foster, Houston Texans: As if leading the NFL in rushing (1,616 yards) wasn’t enough, he added 66 catches for 604 yards. Oh, and he had 18 total touchdowns (16 rushing, two receiving). He’s the perfect back for Houston’s zone blocking scheme.

2. Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings: He’s not a receptions magnet, but he gets plenty. McNabb has always been good getting the ball to his RBs.

3. Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs: Carries and receptions should increase this year, leading to monster numbers.

4. Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans: I’d put him at three when the Titans give him a long-term deal.

5. Ray Rice, Baltimore Ravens: He’s averaged over 1,900 total yards and 70.5 catches over the past two seasons.

6. Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders: Run DMC finally lived up to the hype, collecting 1,664 total yards (1,157 rushing), 47 catches and 10 touchdowns (seven rushing) in 13 games. If he can stay healthy, he could rank right up there with the big four.

7. LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles: Shady may not catch as many passes this year in the Eagle’s loaded offense, but he still will put up some sick numbers.

8. Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh Steelers: Not a PPR guy, but he’ll catch a decent amount of passes. His touchdown production will make up for the lower reception total.

9. Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars: Mojo wasn’t shut down by his knee, but he was limited. His reception and touchdown totals weren’t up to his standards, but he still put together a nice season.

10. Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers: His health scares me. His production scares your opponents.

11. Matt Forte, Chicago Bears: Forte bounced back with 1,616 total yards (1,069 rushing) and nine touchdowns (six rushing). He’s particularly valuable in PPR leagues as he caught 50-plus passes the past three years.

12. Steven Jackson, St. Louis Rams: Jackson had just 3.8 yards per carry last year and six touchdowns, but the offense should be improved in Sam Bradford’s second year. S-Jax isn’t the guy who caught 90 passes in 2006, but he should be good for 40.

13. Michael Turner, Atlanta Falcons: I still like Turner in PPR leagues, but he’s going to have to make up for his lack of touchdowns with trips to the end zone.

14. Ahmad Bradshaw, New York Giants: Returning to the G-Men was a good move. Could catch 50 passes this year.

15. Peyton Hillis, Cleveland Browns: The Browns will be smarter with him this year, but he’ll still catch a ton of balls and put up nice numbers.

16. Shonn Greene, New York Jets: Greene isn’t a PPR guy, but he’s going to get a ton of touches.

17. LeGarrette Blount, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Blount ran for 1,000 yards in just 200 carries. The Bucs could bring in a back to share the load, but until they do he’s a solid RB2.

18. DeAngelo Williams, Carolina Panthers: Returning to Carolina minimizes his fantasy value. They paid him to play though.

19. Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills: Is there an RB in the league that is as unappreciated as Jackson is outside of Buffalo?

20. Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers: Call me a sucker, but I’m willing to give Mathews another shot. Hopefully he can remain healthy this year and deliver on his high expectations.

21. Cedric Benson, Cincinnati Bengals: Nothing sexy about Benson, but he’s steady.

22. Knowshon Moreno, Denver Broncos: By bringing in Willis McGahee, I think the Broncos are giving Moreno another shot.

23. Mark Ingram, New Orleans Saints: First-round rookie running backs have not had a lot of success in recent years (Spiller, Mathews, Best, Moreno, Donald Brown, Beanie), but that doesn’t mean Ingram can’t produce. Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles will steal some carries, but Ingram will likely carry the main load.

24. Ryan Grant, Green Bay Packers: If he’s healthy he should be the starting running back. James Starks earned some touches though.

25. Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks: Lynch doesn’t have much competition for carries and the addition of Robert Gallery helps his value.

26. Jahvid Best, Detroit Lions: Leshoure's injury moves Best up the draft board.

27. Felix Jones, Dallas Cowboys: Perhaps this is his last crack at it. DeMarco Murray scares me a little, but I think Felix will be fine

28. Joseph Addai, Indianapolis Colts: Addai’s ability to pick up the blitz and catch the ball out of the backfield should lead to plenty of opportunities.

29. Daniel Thomas, Miami Dolphins: With Reggie Bush on board, Thomas won’t see the field on many passing downs.

30. Reggie Bush, Miami Dolphins: Bush is going to get his touches, as long as he can stay healthy.
