WWE SummerSlam 2011: 50 Greatest Moments in SummerSlam History

Giulio RomanoJun 6, 2018

Here we are finally...one week away from the biggest party of the summer on August 14, 2011.

It will be time for SummerSlam!

The stakes have never been so high as CM Punk and John Cena battle one more time to determine once and for all just who is the Undisputed WWE Champion.

Randy Orton attempts to regain his World Heavyweight title as he faces his nemesis Christian in a No Holds Barred match.

For me, this year's edition is very important because as a fan of the Divas, I might be witnessing the rebirth of the division as Beth Phoenix finally gets her opportunity to make things right and bring the title back around the waist of a real "wrestler."

Poor Kelly Kelly...she's in for a rough night.

It is my favorite event of the year. The very first I attended all those years ago as a young man and always around my birth date, so I am very attached to this one.

There have been so many great moments during the 20-plus years it has been around. Having been looking through all that material, I have racked up the best one I could think of and brought them to you.

Without further ado, here are the greatest moments in SummerSlam history.

Honky Tonk Man Sings the Blues

1 of 50

The inaugural SummerSlam in 1988 met great success as it hailed from Madison Square Garden.

One of the unexpected matches was Honky Tonk Man defending his Intercontinental championship against a mystery opponent, as the scheduled adversary, Brutus Beefcake, was on the shelf and couldn't compete.

The champion asked the people in the back to send somebody to him, and it didn't matter who it was. Bad, bad Honky!

As surprised as we all were, out came the Ultimate Warrior, and in less than 10 seconds, it was over. The 454 days reign of the Elvis impersonator had come to an end...finally!

History had been made that night, and it also began the rise of a new force in WWE.

His name: the Ultimate Warrior.

Miss Elizabeth Blows the Mega-Bucks a Kiss of Death

2 of 50

Men...

The Mega-Powers, Hulk Hogan and the late Randy Savage came into this match wielding a secret weapon. Its name was the lovely and wonderful Elizabeth, the first lady of WWE.

When all was lost, she climbed to the apron and took off the bottom piece of her outfit to reveal her beautiful figure. It distracted the Mega-Bucks (Andre and DiBiase) Bobby Heenan, Virgil and referee Jesse "The Body" Ventura long enough to allow the good guys to recover and return to the ring for the victory.

I definitely feel the heat when I see that. She was really something. The jewel in the crown of the WWE Universe.

I only hope the company does her justice next year and induct her into the Hall of Fame along with the Macho Man.

The Warrior Wins Again!!

3 of 50

Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of this bout and the NEW!! Intercontinental Champion, the Ultimate Warrior!

Nobody did it better than Hall of Famer Howard Finkel.

It was the best damned birthday party I could ever have. NONE have come close, except maybe the 30th. The fans were beyond wild. I could barely hear myself think, and it is amazing to see how much importance that belt meant at the time.

The match was amazing, and the celebration that followed, even better.

Demolition Flatlines

4 of 50

Piper said it best in the end...what a match!

It was awesome, and we don't even get best two-out-of-three falls matches anymore. That's too bad. The old, classic title belts are much better looking than the pennies we have now.

Not only did the Hart Foundation regain the titles that night, the Texas Tornado beat Mr. Perfect for the Intercontinental championship. This, combined with the Ultimate Warrior's retention, made the WWE an all "faces" title scene.

Watch the whole match with the links below. It's worth the time.

Part one

Part two

Rick Rude Makes Warrior Shine in the Cage

5 of 50

Nobody could take the Ultimate Warrior to his limits better than "Ravishing" Rick Rude.

At SummerSlam 1990, there were actually two main events, and one of them was for the WWE championship.

Old rivals met inside the confines of a steel cage.

Earlier that night, the Texas Tornado had won the Intercontinental title while the Hart Foundation regained the Tag Team championship. If Rude had won, it would have been the first time ever that ALL titles changed hands in one night.

It was not to be. The Warrior retained and allowed for all the championships to be held by "faces," which rarely ever happens.

The match itself here was great. Not only did Rick Rude show us why he deserved a World title reign, but he carried his opponent throughout the match.

I believe him to be at the wrong place in time, just like Jake Roberts, to name one. They were great but just fell between two chairs.

Rude left WWE later that year for a more successful run in WCW.

Watch part two here.

A Match Made in Heaven

6 of 50

In the summer of 1991, we were all invited to the grandiose wedding of "Macho Man" Randy Savage and his lovely bride-to-be Miss Elizabeth.

Dubbed the "Match made in Heaven," it was the official "kayfabe" wedding of the power couple. I say that because in reality, Randy Savage and Elizabeth Hulette had been married since 1984, so basically, they renewed their vows in front of the entire world.

Drama ensued. During the wedding reception, the newlyweds were attacked by The Undertaker and Jake "The Snake" Roberts. This new feud prompted WWE figureheads to reinstate Macho Man back into the roster. He had been retired since losing his match at WrestleMania VII to the Ultimate Warrior.

Randy and Liz faced their enemies head on, and it was an act of compassion from Taker that saved them months later.

We all know their ultimate fate was to be divorced OFFICIALLY a few months later, but it didn't stop us from feeling the magic.

The Mountie Doesn't Pass and GOes to Jail!

7 of 50

I am French Canadian like Jacques Rougeau, and I know he is a very nice man in person, BUT his Mountie character was the most obnoxious person I ever heard.

I AM THE MOUNTIE!! Be quiet! Go to jail!

The former Intercontinental Champion was in for some hard time. With the mug shots, complaints and "friends" in his cell, it must have been the worst night of his life.

Bye Bye Jailbird!

Bret Hart Triumphs

8 of 50

Bret "Hitman" Hart is my favorite Superstar of all time. He has defeated every single top superstar there is right up until his retirement.

In 1991, after years making a success of himself within the Hart Foundation, Bret decided to go it alone and prove to the world he really was the best there is, was and ever will be.

For him to accomplish that, he needed to beat the best athletes in WWE, and in front of him was perfection personified in the form of Intercontinental Champion Mr. Perfect.

Curt Hennig was a phenomenal performer. He may never have won a world title, but he definitely was WWE Champion material. He is another one of those unfortunate people to fall between two chairs.

Bret Hart really took it to him and even kicked out of the "Perfectplex" finisher, which had never been done before.

At the end of the night began the rise to fame of the "Hitman," and years later, this would be known as one of the greatest matches ever.

Becoming Triple Crown Champions...what a Rush!

9 of 50

The Road Warriors, aka Legion of Doom, are one of the greatest tag teams to have ever lived.

Winning the WWE Tag Team championship at SummerSlam 1991 made them the very first triple crown champions, as they were former NWA and AWA champions before that.

The defeated the Nasty Boys in a No-Disqualification match, and not even the little runt Jimmy Hart could prevent that.

What I find sad is it wasn't against Demolition, who had been labeled as copycats. That team is legendary on its own, but by August 1991, had disappeared from WWE altogether. We never got the feud we wanted, and what's even worse, the LOD didn't even hold the belts that long.

The lost the belts to Money in AT A LIVE SHOW...boooo!

No matter, the Legion of Doom made history that night and firmly established their dominance over tag team wrestling.

Though Michael James Hegstrand (Hawk) passed away in 2003, the other members of LOD, Joe Laurenaitis (Animal) and Paul Ellering (the manager), were inducted into the WWE Hall of Famer this past April.

SummerSlam Goes Overseas

10 of 50

For the first time ever, a WWE event would be held across the ocean and into the old continent. London, England was chosen to host the 1992 edition and also featured two title main events.

One was for the WWE championship featuring the Ultimate Warrior and reigning champion "Macho Man" Randy Savage, which will highlight the next slide.

The final match of the night was for the Intercontinental championship. Yes, you heard right. The second tier title was the feature of the night when brothers-in-law Bret Hart and Davey Boy Smith met inside the squared circle.

Smith had been chosen to be in this match rather than Shawn Michaels because of the venue location. The pop from the crowd was awesome and the match, equally spectacular.

Bret Hart did most of the work because the Bulldog was dealing with a back injury and wasn't 100 percent. You could hardly tell since both were consummate workers and the "Hitman" was a craft master.

I believe this to be one of Bret's finest matches and his personal favorite. He may have lost the gold that night, but what he gained was priceless: a classic career moment printed in our minds forever.

He also gained a million more fans and a WWE championship a month and a half later.

1992 was a very good year.

Sensational Sherri's...assets.

11 of 50

What a fun match this was. I specifically chose this match because of Sensational Sherri's attire. It was rather...special and never seen before. It made everyone in the room feel the heat.

None of the pretty boys could hit the other in the face, and when they were about to, sexy Sherri passed out.

Both men fought to revive her, but in the end, Sherri was humiliated and abandoned by both callers when Rick Martel brought her back to her senses using a bucket of water.

Savage-Warrior II: For All the Gold

12 of 50

The first main event match of the London show.

Randy Savage made the Warrior look like a million bucks every time they encountered one another. Just watch the match and see what I am talking about.

Part two

Part three

Part four

I was rooting for the Warrior to regain the championship, but instead, I got a truly amazing match, and months later, the man who would replace him as my favorite, Bret Hart, won the WWE title from Ric Flair IN CANADA no less.

1992 was a really good year.

Wembley Erupts for the Hitman and the Bulldog

13 of 50

I love SummerSlam recalls...they make my life so easy and sum up what I need to show. Thanks, WWE.

This was truly the match of the night, and as I've said it before, Bret Hart's personal favorite.

I love the Intercontinental championship and its lineage. It is sad how far down the quality fell over the last decade, and with this new era ushered in by Triple H, we can only hope it brings back some of the luster.

You want to see great title matches then look no further than SummerSlam.

It seems the championship and event go hand in hand. To be honest, the event of the summer is the place to have great IC title matches because they are not overshadowed by WrestleMania and its regular WWE title main event.

I hope Cody Rhodes encounters and defeats Ezekiel Jackson this Sunday, if the match is signed, of course. The big man is an awkward champion, and I would prefer having the belt on Rhodes.

We have to wait and see if it is official this Friday on Smackdown.

Bret Hart Destroys Jerry Lawler

14 of 50

Ever since Jerry Lawler attacked Bret Hart after his victory at King of the Ring 1993, I wanted him to get punished severely.

I got my wish at SummerSlam that year, but it came with a price, and Lawler came out of the arena that night as the "undisputed king" of the WWE.

What a joke.

Not only did that guy mess with my favorite back then, he also messed with my favorite now, The Miz. Please stick to commentary Jerry and make Monday nights great again, along with JR. No more pissing off my Superstars!

I always like "The King" getting beaten up.

Part two

Part three

Part four

One of the Best Divas Matches Ever

15 of 50

Madusa and Bull Nakano are some of the best female competitors ever to step in a WWE ring.

Their performance at SummerSlam 1994 was stellar. There haven't been many Divas matches in SummerSlam, but hopefully, that will change starting this year as Kelly Kelly and Beth Phoenix prepare to do battle.

I hope they learn from watching this very match because the two in here could teach even the Glamazon a thing or two.

Undertaker vs. Undertaker: A Mirror Universe?

16 of 50

As impressive as it was then, I look at this now, and you can clearly see the difference between Mark Calloway and his impostor.

It's ok because it was a great SummerSlam moment and Paul Bearer is always amazing. Oh yes!

The Undertaker is a legend, and not having him around feels like something is missing. Could he make a surprise appearance this year? He has during the last two editions.

Bret vs. Owen for the Title

17 of 50

It was a family affair.

Owen lived in the shadow of Bret for years and finally stepped out in his victory at WrestleMania X. Now, with Bret Hart as WWE Champion, it was Owen Hart's chance to finally stick it to his elder brother.

Inside the confines of a steel cage, there was no escape and no excuses. The Hitman may have won the battle that night, but the war was FAR from over.

Part two

Part three

Part four

Part five

Triple H's First Summer Extravaganza

18 of 50

The blue blood of the World Wrestling Federation, as he was known then. Triple H began his road to the top with a victory over Bob Holly, who later became "Hardcore" Holly.

I was a big fan of his back then. My friends and I would taunt each other by doing the Hunter's bow whenever we "one-uped" each other.

Most people just wanted to slap that silly smirk off of HHH's face, and that look of disdain he sported every week just made us hate him even more.

Triple H is good at making people dislike him. It is not over yet.

The Second Historic Ladder Match

19 of 50

Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon are two of the best Intercontinental Champions in history. They already met at WrestleMania X in the first ladder match, and now, it was time to do it again here at SummerSlam 1995.

HBK came out the winner this time around, but their spectacular match led a legacy of great TLC (tables, ladders and chairs) action for years to come.

It even has its own Pay Per View event.

Part two

Part three

Part four

Hell Erupts in the Boiler Room

20 of 50

The Undertaker and Mankind gave us great matches every single time they were in the ring together.

It was only the beginning in 1996 as Paul Bearer turned on his long time associate. The power of the urn passed onto Mankind through darkness and treachery. Delicious!

Now that he is a free agent, could we seen the many faces of Mick Foley back in the WWE in 2011?

If the rumors are true, then Paul Bearer could also make a return to participate in The Undertaker's 20th Wrestlemania appearance.

Things are looking up.

Owen 3:16 Is Born

21 of 50

The "Rattlesnake" still managed to win the match, but at what cost?

That piledriver was not executed properly, and as a result, Stone Cold had his neck injured severely. It was an accident, of course.

This injury is one of the reasons he had to retire a few years later. One just shouldn't move if suffering from such neck trauma like this here.

If you take a look closely, you can see the concern on Owen Hart's face during the match. After awhile, he began sporting a mockery of Austin's t-shirt dubbed: "Owen 3:16/I just broke your neck" and also regained his belt only to lose it to Stone Cold at the infamous Survivor Series of 1997.

Steve Austin claimed he still has a few years left in him to compete. I would love for him to return for another WrestleMania moment next year.

Bret Hart = Five Times

22 of 50

1997 was a critical year for Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. During his bout with WWE Champion The Undertaker at SummerSlam, the "Hitman" spat in HBK's face, and Taker got the chair shot heard round the world.

One, two, three count later, and the "Excellence of Execution" regained the championship for the fifth time!

It set a few things in motion. First and foremost, it was a prelude for, if not the beginning of, the "Attitude Era" in WWE.

Following that match, the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels fought in the very first Hell in a Cell match, which would determine the number one contender for the WWE championship, and THAT led HBK to Montreal and the screwjob of 1997.

Respect? This Is Personal!

23 of 50

Triple H and The Rock were some of the pillars of the Attitude Era. Their great matches for the WWE title speak for themselves, but this was prior to that.

At the beginning, they were leaders of their respective bands, DX for Hunter and the Nation for Rocky. Each week, they traded insults and cost each other matches, but it was when The Rock cost HHH the European title AND attacked Chyna that set "The Game" on fire.

They settled the score here at SummerSlam 1998 in another great and fantastic ladder match.

When it was almost game over, Chyna came up and delivered her own brand of justice to the People's Champion, which allowed for Triple H to snatch the title and end the war.

Part two

Part three

Part four

It's a Question of Hair

24 of 50

I never liked Jeff Jarrett, and for him to get his lovely hair shaved all sideways by X-Pac at SummerSlam 1998 was a priceless moment.

All that was missing was a guitar shot to his head! Oh wait! There was one. It was a good night indeed. I can see many others disliked Jarrett as I did. The New Age Outlaws, the Headbangers, X-Pac and Howard Finkel all reveled in taking a piece out of Double J' soul.

Double J Becomes a Double Champion

25 of 50

Notice how loud people chant "***Hole" to Jeff Jarrett when he sends Debra to the back. The crowd was on fire. It is nice when you have a show with people so into it. Last time that happened was this past July at Money In The Bank.

Well, needless to say, D-Lo Brown was clearly robbed and/or outsmarted here. He came in as a double champion and left as a double zero.

Part two

Kiss My Ass!

26 of 50

I always feel sorry when they bring in people like that woman  to do a job like that. They make fun of themselves, and I don't know if it actually hurts their feelings, but I know I wouldn't like people to make fun of the way I looked.

We don't have many "kiss my ass" matches in WWE and certainly not many with The Rock involved. It makes that time and era so special because anything could really go in the company.

Part two

Part three

"The Rock just put Billy Gunn's face in that large woman's ass!"

It's great to have you back on commentary, JR. Never was the same without you.

Jesse the Body Governs the Triple Threat Match

27 of 50

Nobody messes with "The Body."

Triple H found out the hard way, and as a result, failed to win the title from Stone Cold that night. In the end, it was "HAVE A NICE DAY!!!" Mankind that walked away with the gold.

In triple threat matches, there's just no advantage at being the champion, even if your name was Steve Austin.

Part two

Part three

Mamasita Wins the Intercontinental Championship

28 of 50

Chyna is the Ninth Wonder of the World, now and forever. For her to win the IC title means that anything is possible in WWE, so keep that in mind when Beth Phoenix revives the Divas division this Sunday.

That whole angle with Eddie Guerrero was pretty funny, and I have used the term "Mamasita" quite often since then.

Thank you, Eddie.

You have to be shocked to see a legendary Diva like Trish Stratus so woman-handled like that. She is a former seven-time champion after all but teenie tiny next to Chyna.

In the end, history was made as the ninth wonder regained the title. Women rule!

Tables, Ladders and Chairs....Oh My!

29 of 50

Jeff Hardy kamikazes himself from a 20-foot ladder...just doesn't get any better than that. I am still amazed he both pulled it off and lived.

You have the best of the best in here at the same time. E&C, the Dudleys and the Hardys. Some are now former WORLD champions and elite Superstars; who would have thought?

Watch this match and let it take your breath away.

Part two

Kurt and I Are Just Friends!......Really?

30 of 50

Stephanie McMahon and Triple H may end up ruling the WWE, but back then, her voice was like someone driving a nail through my head.

She played quite a role in this match, and we didn't know what side she was on sometimes. In the end, Angle got thrown out, Stephanie got "hammered" and Triple H got the "People' Elbow."

I'd say it was a Rock-solid victory for the WWE Champion.

Part two

Part three

Part four

SummerSlam 2001: Main Event for The...WCW Title?

31 of 50

Vince McMahon didn't make The Rock. The Rock didn't make The Rock. The People!...made The Rock.

After WCW disappeared, the only evidence rested in that hideous, second-rate title Christian carries to the ring every week.

At the time, the invasion was upon us, and The Rock was on hiatus to film "The Scorpion King," so when he returned, so many things had changed.

Booker T wanted to get a piece of The Great One and even used a modified version of the "Rock Bottom" finisher called "The Book End."

It wasn't enough, as Rocky overcame his opponent and took the WCW championship to the side of WWE.

Part two

10 years later...I just hope we get to see the end of that stupid gold belt and soon!

The Next Big Thing Becomes Undisputed Champion

32 of 50

The "Next Big Thing," Brock Lesnar had arrived in 2002 and claimed the Undisputed WWE championship by defeating The Rock.

There was no doubt the man was built up to be a major force in the company, and upon winning the title, he became the youngest man to do so; that is, until Randy Orton superceded him years later.

Lesnar decided to be exclusive to the Smackdown brand, and because of his actions, the WWE championship lost its "undisputed" name. This in turn forced Eric Bischoff to recommission the old WCW belt and name it "World Heavyweight Championship."

Now, years later, Lesnar is light years away from WWE, The Rock is scheduled to return at Survivor Series and we still have two world titles.

It's almost perfect.

HBK and HHH Unsanctioned

33 of 50

Part two

Part three

Another classic line by good old JR:

"You son of a bitch; you realize what you've just done?"

I think this was a fantastic match. It was the first of many battles these two great Superstars would wage over the next few years. What I see is these two brought out the best in each other, and it's only fitting their reunion made them even more powerful.

I am not a fan of bloody messes, and clearly, this match was a bloody mess. The silver lining? We got HBK back for a few more years right up to his retirement in 2010.

The Elimination Chamber Match

34 of 50

Evolution was running the world and Triple H was the World Heavyweight Champion. The odds were stacked against him in this match, but he pulled off the upset thanks to his loyal cronies and beloved sledgehammer.

That no good career-ending Goldberg took out three guys during the match and destroyed the cage Triple H was in, but it was "The Game" who had the last laugh.

Part two

Part three

Part four

Here Comes the Pain!

35 of 50

It's not every day you see Brock Lesnar tapping out, so when Kurt Angle pulled it off, it seemed like a total upset.

After a few F5 attempts, Angle reversed it and made the "Next Big Thing" quit the match and fail in his mission to regain the WWE championship. Not even Vince McMahon's interference could help him.

Kurt Angle is a craft master, and brains usually are better than brawn. This match was no exception.

Part two

Part three

Lita Is Not a Prize to Be Won!

36 of 50

Gotta love WWE for coming up with gimmicks like this one. A "Till Death do us Part" match must be the craziest thing I have ever heard.

It was great! Lita and Kane having a baby and getting married? Only in this wrestling organization could this ever happen.

RKO Makes History

37 of 50

Randy Orton and his "Legend Killer" persona became the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in history at SummerSlam 2004 with a victory over Chris Benoit.

He began his road to the very top of the mountain, and this year will once again challenge for that very same title.

Will history repeat itself?

Matt Hardy Takes on Edge: Up Close and Personal

38 of 50

The winner by knock out: the Rated-R Superstar Edge.

Two former friends beating each other to a bloody pulp all for the honor (or dishonor) of a beautiful woman.

Legend Killin' the Undertaker

39 of 50

Why is it that Randy Orton's RKOs always come out of nowhere? Does he really have snake blood?

Maybe he does! That would explain how he managed to defeat the Undertaker that night. His victory further confirmed his status as a "legend" killer.

You have to be able to resort to unlimited tactics to pin the dead man, and "Cowboy" Bob was just the tool for the job.

Part two

Legend vs. Legend: Force Him to Say I QUIT!

40 of 50

I already miss Melina.

This match is totally disgusting, so I will let you comment on it down below. I already covered this in another piece and reiterate that it is an awesome moment in SummerSlam history; HOWEVER, it grosses me out, so carry on, please.

Part two

By the way...Melina looks real nice.

D-Generation X Reunites to Destroy the McMahons

41 of 50

Vince McMahon and roosters? I never thought I'd see the day. The DX-McMahon feud was good in the ring but far more spectacular out of it. Why? Because HHH and HBK outdid themselves in their skits.

They have three DVDs on all their antics after all. We tuned in on Mondays just to see what kind of stupidities they'll pull out of their bag of tricks.

I'm just glad they won the match at SummerSlam 2006.

Part two

Part three

Part four

Edge = the ULTIMATE Opportunist

42 of 50

John Cena only has one true nemesis. His name is Edge, and he holds so many victories over Cena it is incredible.

SummerSlam 2006 was no different. The WWE championship was on the line, and as the "Ultimate Opportunist," Edge definitely had the advantage. He didn't have to beat John Cena, but Cena had to beat him.

Too bad they don't check the trunks before the match, as Edge grabbed the brass ring and nailed his foe in the back of the head for the win.

Part two

Come visit soon Edge...we miss ya.

Beth Phoenix Always Dominates

43 of 50

Look out, Kelly Kelly! She's a comin' for you.

In 2007, there was no Glamazon yet, but Beth Phoenix proved to us all why these women should be taken seriously.

She quickly disposed of all her opponents, and go figure, the last one to stand in her way was...tada! Michelle McCool

Both dominated the Divas division during their time, and now it may be time for the Phoenix rise from the ashes and reign supreme once more.

Glamarella: The 2008 Phenomenon

44 of 50

An intergender match. What a great idea. A perfect place to put it also, at Summerslam. What a surprise...Beth Phoenix won again.

It was the first of its kind. I hope it happens again. Kofi Kingston and Mickie James fly around and really are great performers. Too bad she wastes her time in TNA.

Santino is a comedy act, nothing more, and I enjoyed this match very much, especially when he jumps on Beth Phoenix in fear or celebration.

What an idiot! Haha.

Edge Chokeslamed to Hell!

45 of 50

At SummerSlam 2008, we had one of the best matches of the decade as Edge took on The Undertaker in Hell in a Cell.

The outcome was far better than I expected, as the Phenom won his match and drove the Rated-R Superstar right through the mat, into Hell and its fire.

LOVED it!

Jeff Hardy SWANTONS from High Above

46 of 50

I believe this to be THE most impressive move I have ever seen in WWE. That was absolutely fantastic!

The real question was, how in the blue blazes did CM Punk come back and win the match?

Kane Is Exposed as the Assailant

47 of 50

I believe the 2010 edition of SummerSlam was a great disappointment. Besides the slide I add in here, there was nothing truly noteworthy about last year's show.

The Undertaker had been out for a while, and Kane was on a rampage trying to find his brother's attacker. When he decided it was none other than Rey Mysterio, the then-World Heavyweight Champion vowed to destroy the masked wonder one final time at SummerSlam.

Everyone knew this was all an act, as Kane wanted the title for himself and purposely took out his brother in order to be the sole master of Smackdown.

When all seemed lost for Mysterio, Kane opened up the coffin and found The Undertaker laying in it to great shock.

The Phenom secretly revealed he knew Rey was innocent and exposed Kane as the assailant. As everyone expected him to unleash his fury, it was the Big Red Monster who quickly gained the upper hand and "tombstoned" his still-weakened brother.

Kane still reigned supreme as champion at the end of the night against all our expectations.

Melina Regains the Divas Championship

48 of 50

This match was the last time we saw Melina in WWE at a high point. She regained the title she was forced to vacate in early 2010 due to a torn ACL, but after Lay-Cool's interference, her fate was sealed.

The mean girls beat her a month later to unify both the Women's and Divas titles. She would be buried for a year's time until her release just this past Friday.

Love how Alicia Fox tries to get some piece of action here, but McCool just throws her out like trash.

Hey Michelle, wasn't she the one who helped you defeat Melina last year at The Bash? Well, I'm sure Ms. Fox says you're welcome.

WWE Wins! Nexus = Major FAIL

49 of 50

The Nexus.

A band of recruits coming together to take over the whole company. The only problem was, they took on an alliance of some of the best the WWE had to offer with John Cena as their leader.

Only a few Superstars ever pin the man of steel, and so, once Wade Barrett tapped out to the "STF," the fate of Nexus was sealed. They had lost all the heat they gained, and I stopped believing in them being a major threat.

They accomplished nothing. There wasn't even repercussions for their attack on Vince McMahon. Even now, Wade Barrett is a total joke.

What can I say, with Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, Edge and John Cena on one team, how many World titles is that in total?

McMahon did have a role to play here. He invented the perfect catchphrase for the occasion: Nexus had no chance in Hell!

Power to the People II

50 of 50

What about you? What are some of the best SummerSlam moments you ever had?

It is the event of the summer. The biggest party of the summer. So many names for such an historical show.

I sense the 2011 edition will be quite remarkable, as we may see a new Divas Champion, and we will definitely crown an Undisputed WWE Champion.

Will the MITB winners cash in their prizes? I can't wait until Sunday.

The heat is on.
