Is Cam Newton the Next Jason Campbell?

Ever since the lockout ended, all I have been hearing is how Cam Newton is going to be the next Jason Campbell. I'm not sure if this is just because both of them are African American and played their college ball at Auburn or they actually do have the same set of skills.

I thought when Campbell came out that he was a good quarterback, but I never thought he would be anything great.

Going to the Washington Redskins didn't really help him either, in my opinion. Going to the Oakland Raiders was probably the best thing for his career.

How many people can you say that about?

Thankfully for Cam Newton, he went to the Carolina Panthers, who aren't really in a bad situation. They have a top-ten running back in DeAngelo Williams and a very good backup in Jonathan Stewart. Steve Smith still has some good years left at wide receiver, and they landed another nice young catcher in Legedu Naanee from San Diego.

The offensive line isn't the greatest, but they aren't near the bottom either, though the defense is average and will have their hands full with the offenses of division rivals New Orleans, Atlanta, and Tampa Bay.

When you look at the situations that Campbell and Newton are in, I think Cam is set up to succeed much better than Campbell.

I don't see any real comparisons between their games on the field.

Sure, they are both black quarterbacks that led their undefeated Auburn teams to national championships, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are the same type of player.

I believe that Newton is going to have a lot of success in the NFL. He has the size and skills to succeed in the league already, and he will only get better from here on out. Just listening to his interviews, he sounds like a veteran and a guy that will stay out of trouble.

I think that Campbell has been a much better player in Oakland, but I think Newton will ultimately be the better quarterback.
