UFC 133 Results: Dennis Hallman and The Most Ridiculous Fight Shorts Ever

In an action-packed UFC 133 card, welterweight journeyman Dennis Hallman fought his 67th professional fight against another very active fighter in Brian Ebersole.

Fans looked forward to an exciting grappling contest, and were likely not disappointed...except based on Hallman’s choice of fight attire.

In an unprecedented move, Hallman walked out to the cage wearing a blue speedo.

The choice of attire did not seem to be of help for Hallman, and Ebersole finished him with ground and pound in the first round.

While no one has ever shown the guts (and, arguably, stupidity) that Hallman did wearing a speedo to the ring, there are plenty of other fighters who sport some funky shorts to the Octagon.

Let’s take a look at some of the most unorthodox fight attire MMA has ever seen.

5. Thomas Denny

“The Wildman” is not well known in MMA circles, probably most notorious for giving Nick Diaz a run for his money in the EliteXC prior to getting stopped early in the second round.

The true definition of a journeyman with a record of 27-19-1, Denny is currently a member of the Canadian-based promotion Maximum Fighting Championships (MFC).

Denny makes this list for sporting pink board shorts to the cage, which match his neon green and pink dyed hair.

The California native also had an appearance on Bully Beatdown where he was unable to submit or knockout the bully in the one and only instance on the show where the bully won the money prize at the end.

4. Phil Davis

The former Division I wrestling National Champion has recently been sporting pink compression shorts to the cage.

To be fair though, Davis isn’t trying to be a comedian or controversial, he actually sports the pink shorts in his fights for a good reason.

In November of 2010, Davis told MMAdiehards.com that:

“Pretty much everyone is affected by breast cancer,” Davis said. “Whether you have somebody in your family or have a friend that has someone in their family that is affected by it, it’s around you. It’s not just a female health issue, it’s something that affects everyone.”

Good cause or not, it’s hard to argue that not every man would have the confidence to sport these skintight pink shorts in front of thousands of people.

3. Lyle Beerbohm

3 of 5

Beerbohm isn’t nicknamed “Fancy Pants” just because. The Strikeforce lightweight typically sports compression style shorts with an abstract pattern and neon colors.

The story behind the shorts is that Beerbohm’s mom actually hand knits all of the trunks Lyle wears for competition; a tradition that’s been kept active since Beerbohm made his professional debut in April of 2007.

After going 16-0 to start off his career, Beerbohm has lost two in a row to the likes of Pat Healy and Shinya Aoki, so his place in the Strikeforce lightweight division remains unclear for now.

Whether or not he ever becomes a champion in the sport, Beerbohm will always be remembered for his unique choice of fight apparel.

2. Shinya Aoki

The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ace is known for two things: his highlight reel-worthy submissions and the ridiculous pants he wears on fight night.

Aoki’s tights are typically red, yellow, or blue, but has occasionally included some neon colors as well.

The current DREAM lightweight champion is riding a five fight win steak after getting crushed by Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez in April of last year.

Aoki, a consensus top 10 fighter at 155, takes on Rob McCullough at Dream 17 at the end of next month.

1. Dennis Hallman

What else can be said here that hasn’t been said: Hallman wore a blue speedo for his choice of fight trunks at UFC 133.

The submission specialist has fought 67 fights over the course of a nearly 14 year career, and still looks like he has plenty of fights left in him despite the recent loss.

Whether or not the UFC will give him another fight remains to be seen, as Dana White expressed extreme displeasure about “Superman’s” choice of fight gear at the recent pay-per-view event.
