Manchester United Record a Stunning Comeback To Win Community Shield
Manchester United have recorded a stunning three-goal comeback against crosstown rivals Manchester City to win the Community Shield for a record 19th time.
Manchester City came out with the stronger of the two starting XI's on paper, and It showed early on as they played a faster brand of football than United. Dzeko was involved from the onset and was showing glimpses of the form that made him famous at Wolfsburg. His attacking partner Mario Balotelli proved interchanged passing well with Dzeko when needed, but was fairly quiet in the opening few minutes.
United came out headed by Wayne Rooney, and the striker attempted to test Hart early on blazing the ball wide. Nani had a similar mentality to the No. 10, going for an audacious goal from a free kick, although it failed to trouble the Manchester City No. 1.

From here City took over the play. The combination of De Jong and Silva was really dictating Carrick and Anderson in the middle of the park, and when City were awarded a free kick in the United half Silva stepped up.
The Spanish international played a brilliant ball into the United penalty area, finding the head of Lescott who directed the ball up and over the head of David de Gea into the United net. Manchester City were up 1-0 in the Community Shield.
From there on Manchester City only built on their performance, constant barrages of attacks were proving effective, as they edged ever closer to bagging a second goal. It was soon to follow. A ball to a lone Edin Dzeko saw the Bosnian take a touch, look up and fire a shot straight at De Gea.
The ball swerved in the air, giving De Gea little time to react. The Spanish keeper failed to get down and Dzeko found himself on the score sheet from 30 yards. Manchester City 2-0 against Manchester United.
The half time break could not come soon enough for United. Immediately after the break Ferguson made four changes, bringing on Cleverly, Smalling and Evans onto the pitch.
The energetic nature of the four youngsters had a massive impact on Untied's passages of play. Suddenly it all just seemed to get quicker. The ball was being knocked around faster and in the 52nd minuted Smalling latched on to the end of a Ashley Young ball to direct the ball into the net off the set piece—2-1 to Manchester City
The game continued, and it was all United, Ashley Young and Nani were linking up superbly, and just six minutes later Rooney, Cleverley and Nani linked up with a quick interchange of passing in the Manchester City penalty area. Ultimately the Portugese winger chipped the ball over the head of Hart to level the game at 2-2.
United clearly had the momentum, and although City tried to maintain possession, poor passes amounted to nothing going forward. Mancini brought on Clichy and Barry to try and give City a boost but both players had little to no impact on the match.
De Gea wasn't having the best of games in his career but nevertheless would not be beaten in the second half. With the game looking as though it would go to penalties, who else but Nani popped up.
A defensive error between the Manchester City centre backs saw Nani make a break to be one on one with Hart with just one minute remaining. The crowd were on their feet. Nani came closer to Hart, took a step around the keeeper and with an open net he slotted the ball calmly to win the shield for Manchester United.
Sergio Aguero did not make an appearance and perhaps to the detriment of the the Manchester City attack, who failed to fire in the second half. Nani was the standout player on the day scoring two and looking dangerous for the entirety of the game.
