WWE Wrestlemania 28: Chris Jericho vs CM Punk Would Be the Ultimate Main Event
This is my first piece in the WWE section of Bleacher Report. I am a long time wrestling fan but have primarily contributed to the NHL section of Bleacher Report. Nonetheless, this is a thought that I have had for quite sometime now.
When thinking about CM Punk and his shoot promos on Monday Night Raw, it reminds me of times in WCW where Chris Jericho was given roughly about a minute to speak his piece.
In his documentary that can be streamed instantly on Netflix, Jericho goes through explaining on how he wanted to diversify himself; he wanted to incorporate all the wrestling he learned from overseas and polish it off with good mic skills.

Jericho would accomplish this by asking Eric Bischoff for a promo. This would consist of Jericho maybe saying a one liner or two before his opponent came down to the ring.
It was these promos that gave fans the fuel to create signs based of his rambles. One week, Jericho would be a "Paragon of Virtue". Another week, he would take never, combine it with ever, and add some over exaggeration in annunciation.
Jericho started getting over with the crowd, and it was magic before my eyes.
He, in my mind, is the original "Best In The World". He was a solid technical wrestler, he was a high flyer at times, he was well versed in the Mexican and Japanese styles and he was a great mic man.
Looking at CM Punk, I see some major similarities. When Punk debuted, his signature move was the Anaconda Vice, a technical move.
Jericho had the Walls of Jericho.
Punk would continue to evolve, and he would use his straight edge gimmick to prove how he was so much better than everyone else.
Jericho did this when feuding with Dean Malenko by saying he was the man of 1,004 holds. He had four more, so he was better. It was this swagger and cockiness about Jericho that made him likable.
Enough history lessons lets get into the heart of the issue.
When I saw the Twitter exchange starting to develop between Jericho and Punk, it only reaffirmed what I had been thinking.
Chris Jericho, in my mind, is one of the only people that could steal the crowd from CM Punk. If you have taken notice, for the first time in a long time, heels are really generating a positive reaction, and baby faces are getting booed, noticeably John "Super" Cena.
In my mind, The Rock vs John Cena is a terrible main event. This is because it is too predictable. John Cena has been put over in almost every match of meaning in recent memory. I have a hard time believing that VKM reeled The Rock back in to job and lay down to Cena.
This moves on to the prospective main event of Y2J Chris Jericho vs CM Punk. Both men are very similar in style and makeup. As I said earlier, Chris Jericho always proclaimed himself as the absolute best.
He even mentioned this on Twitter when he said that Punk was stealing his gimmick.
Dirt sheets and the rumor mill were abuzz, and everyone assumed that this was apart of selling a storyline.
We all know that Y2J is going to come back, but how will he? He wants to come back in a way that is similar to how he came into the WWE.
It will most likely be some extravagant vignette series that goes on for weeks. I personally think WWE could try and play up something if Punk becomes the Undisputed Title at Summerslam.
Punk could run his mouth and say he finally is the Undisputed Champion and could continue his best in the world spiel.
If the WWE could book Jericho vs Punk for WrestleMania 28, it would be a hotter match than Rock/Cena. Everyone on Twitter knows the popular hashtag #IwantWrestling by now.
That is exactly what you would get. Two great mic men could engage in promo warfare for weeks. Punk could buildup the angle by asking Jericho why he was unable to beat HBK at Wrestlemania years ago when he was the best in the world.
I see this main event as a technical masterpiece where each wrestler goes back to their roots. It wouldn't be The Rock and Cena trading taunts, People's Elbows and Five Knuckle Shuffles.
It could be a sequence where a G.T.S. is countered into a Walls of Jericho which in turn is countered into an Anaconda Vise and into another move so on and so forth. I really hope this match could come into fruition because this is the match many wanted to see but never happened.
CM Punk is the hottest commodity in the industry. Jericho is the hottest wrestler in no mans land. I have a feeling that Chris Jericho is starting to get that itch again, and I hope he can come back before Survivor Series to get this ball rolling.
Tell me what you think, and if you have any comments, questions or concerns, post them in the section below. I hope to contribute on this page more frequently, so I hope I kept you interest.
