Strutting With the Winners of College Football
To no one’s surprise, there is always an array of teams that take the runway by storm as they swagger into the top 25 of the college football rankings. Some finish the show and some fall short.
It is a long runway to waltz down, so let the silhouette focus as it gets closer. It happens every college football season. There are a few unfamiliar, yet striking models that hit the walk and dazzle everyone with stunning features.
The first few struts are boisterous and sexy, but as the beauty walk continues, the model begins to clam up and lose form. Suddenly, the sex appeal begins to diminish as the strut falls to an awkward prance.
Vanderbilt and East Carolina, to name a few, were two of the teams that took the beauty contest by surprise. They sashayed from behind the curtain with a hot new look that no one had seen before and finessed their first few steps with unique refreshing tunes.
However, as the entire college football nation shook their head in an attempt to clear the mind and gaze for a second time, the models could not take the pressure from the crowd and the flashing lights.
Following a 5-0 start for the Commodores, they have since stumbled big with four straight losses. They shocked everyone with wins over No. 24 South Carolina and Auburn, but fell to Mississippi State, Georgia, Duke, and Florida.
With three games remaining, the Commodores need that one solid outing to secure a bowl bid.
East Carolina paraded on the scene with big wins over West Virginia and Virginia Tech to merely drop three in a row to North Carolina State, Houston, and Virginia.
The Pirates are looking for three more conference wins to have a shot at winning the Conference USA title.
At this point in the show, who has surprisingly taken the runway by storm and yet seems to look even sexier as they strut the catwalk?
Just when you think Texas Tech is going to get a heel stuck and fall face-first in front of the crowd, the look becomes even more compelling. Now ranked No. 2 in the country, the Red Raiders are punishing Big 12 competition week after week with a dominating offensive performance.
Saturday night was just another example, as Graham Harrell went 40-for-50 with 456 yards and six touchdowns in the 56-20 stomping of Oklahoma State. With the Oklahoma Sooners awaiting, Texas Tech has consecutively beat three top 25 teams.
The Alabama Crimson Tide is another striking view that continues to walk tall. After falling apart at the end of last season with a loss to Louisiana-Monroe, it was gut check time for Nick Saban’s squad.
So, what happened? The outfit is the same, the face is the same, yet it is a different look all together. Confidence is restored and therefore the sex appeal is new and fresh.
The dynamic play of Bama starts with the poise of quarterback John Parker Wilson and the ability for the defense to adjust to each offense.
Alabama has signature wins away from home against No. 9 Clemson, No. 3 Georgia, and No. 16 LSU. Only rival Auburn and the SEC Championship game stands between Alabama and a final walk-off to win it all.
By season’s end we should have a solid gauge on who has the real sex appeal and who is masquerading. However, if one has held form to this point, the look might be genuine.
