Mauro Ranallo Debates Dana White on Fedor and Golden Glory Releases

Jordy McElroyJun 7, 2018

Strikeforce commentator Mauro Ranallo certainly isn't afraid to ask the tough questions and speak his mind.

UFC President Dana White was the latest guest on The MMA Show, where he talked about Zuffa's decision to release MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko, Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem and women's welterweight champion Marloes Coenen.

Emelianenko was released after his defeat against Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson—his third consecutive loss.

White's opinion of Emelianenko being overrated is well-known in the sport, and Ranallo challenges that view with Emelianenko's historic track record.

There is no denying that Emelianenko hasn't been consistent over the years in facing upper-echelon opposition, but it's hard to deny his success against world class talent when given the opportunity.

The former Pride Heavyweight Champion wasn't the only big name to be released from the Strikeforce promotion. Along with Golden Glory teammates Coenen, Valentijn Overeem and Jon Olav Einemo, Alistair was recently handed his walking papers.

According to White, Zuffa's problem with Golden Glory is not getting to pay the fighters directly. The company is asked to pay the managers, who then cuts a check for the fighter. White simply states that the UFC refuses to do business in this manner.

Contrary to White's statements, Coenen tweeted a picture on Friday of a check supposedly paid directly to her from Zuffa.

White goes in depth to explain the entire situation and he also leaves the door open for a possible Overeem return.
