Top 2011 Fantasy Football Sleepers

Matthew Stafford is sure to be a popular sleeper pick this year, and for good reason. In three games last year, he threw for 535 yards, 6 TD and 1 INT. With an improved running game and Calvin Johnson to still throw to, it’s pretty evident that if he can stay healthy, he’s going to put up some very solid numbers.
Todd Heap is going to be a great value this year. He is ranked around 20 or higher on most ranking lists and he should exceed that considerably. I expect Heap to be a TE1 this year, no lower. He still has enough left in the tank for at least one more great season. With inexperience Kevin Kolb at the helm, he’ll be sure to be looking for his outlet, Heap, early and often.
Call him a product of the system, but Torain made quite a statement in his 2010 campaign. With Washington’s banged up backfield, Torain got a chance to show his talents and Dan Snyder and company seen enough to get rid of their former number one running back Clinton Portis. In 10 games Torain rushed for over 700 yards and four touchdowns. This is pretty impressive if you take into consideration their injury problems on the offensive line and the quarterback controversy. Even if the Redskins continue to struggle, Head Coach Mike Shanahan knows how to get the most out of his running backs.
The Titans have been waiting for their third round pick from two years ago to blossom into the versatile and athletic tight-end they thought they were getting. For the first season and a half Cook never really even had a legitimate opportunity to show his skills in a Jeff Fisher ‘run first’ offense. The last six games of last season Cook finally started coming around, catching 24 passes for 292 yards and his first career touchdown. Why can we expect him to accel in the upcoming season? It looks like the Titans will be going with rookie Jake Locker at quarterback and tight ends easily become a safety blanket for an inexperienced quarterback.

You know it’s easy to put Roy Helu or Daniel Thomas into the mix of sleeper and I almost did. Instead, I looked a little deeper and went with Delone Carter. Drafted by Indianapolis out of Syracuse, I think he could have a big impact in the second half of 2011. Heck, with Hart released, he’s one step closer to starting!
It pains me to say it, but Mike Williams (former 2005 #1 pick of the Detroit Lions) looks, cough, poised to breakout? Gosh, that was hard. Seattle doesn’t have many options at wideout and Tarvaris Jackson should look to Williams a ton in his first year.
