WWE: John Cena's Top 5 Feuds After CM Punk

Justin WatryJun 7, 2018

Everyone is currently wrapped up in this CM Punk/Triple H "worked shoot" business, but we all know this thing will end either next Sunday at SummerSlam or a month or two afterwards. All good things must come to an end! Remember?

That leaves us to ponder what the short-term future will lead to for John Cena.

Where will he go?

Who will step up and challenge him after Punk?

Well, let's dive into my top five choices.

Dolph Ziggler

1 of 5

Yeah, that music is much better than his new one. Thank God they didn't change his hair or anything—oh, wait!

Anyway, this I can see taking up a month or two come the fall. No problem. They had a mini-feud last winter, and I think his interactions with Cena paved the way for Dolph to become a world champion. Yes, he is a former world champion!

With Vickie by his side (for now), this one is a no-brainer that will have the audience involved from the get-go. Whether Ziggler still has a title (or even Cena!), this one is a perfect match.

Alberto Del Rio

2 of 5

It is his destiny. It is going to happen. Come October, he will be WWE champion. October, of course, is when WWE will tape Raw and Smackdown in Mexico, and it just makes too much sense.

Sorry, Punk fans. Even if he does hold on to the title after SummerSlam, it will not last long because Alberto is getting that title. Del Rio, Rey and Sin Cara will all be featured big time in two months. Just a fair warning to everyone!

As for the feud, it is another natural fit for the two, great heel vs great face. It fits. As for how their matches will go, they have only had one together on TV—right before Mania this year. It was okay, but nothing special or anything like that.

Unlike Ziggler, who Cena had great matches with, I am not sure how Del Rio and Cena would mix, but soon enough, we will all find out.

ALBERTO DEL RIO, ALBERTO DEL RIO, ALBERTO DELLLLL RIIIIIIOO!

Triple H

3 of 5

Oh yeah, the seeds are being laid for this one. Come rumble time, their paths will cross. I do not think Hunter will return to a full-time wrestling schedule, but he will be back in the ring by the end of 2011 on a part-time basis.

Hunter will probably feud with Punk, after which a showdown with Cena is likely (perhaps even a TV match). Of course, Triple H is going to be turning heel soon, so it only makes sense for Cena to knock down another heel in 2011.

The matches will be good. The draw will be there. The crowds will be there. The feud will be there. The only question is: Will you be there?

CM Punk

Yes, I am cheating with this one. Down the road, there is no doubt that Cena and Punk will tangle again. No doubt in my mind.

It could even be a mini-feud on TV (like Cena and Dolph last year). Punk and Cena even feuded on TV earlier this year in January and February. It is not that crazy of an idea when you think about it.

These two will always be at odds, no matter who is playing a face/heel/tweener/whatever! These two have such a great chemistry together both inside and outside the ring. I see these guys feuding on and off for years, never truly settling their score.

Honest admission: I was going to put Randy Orton on my list, but with the brand split and a long line of heels on Smackdown, I think Orton is set for a while. I was tempted, though, to talk about another round of Cena/Orton.

Sorry, just telling the truth. Which leads me to No. 1...

The Rock

5 of 5

Do not be fooled. This match IS happening; it will headline WrestleMania 28.

Ignore everything you read, hear, speculate on, think about—throw it all out. The Rock vs. John Cena is going down next spring in Miami, and I can't wait.

With a world of so little dream bouts left—and so many everyone loves to "fantasy book" themselves into disappointment—this one is actually going to happen.

I think most know the story by now. Cena bashed The Rock for leaving, even though Rock said he would never leave. Rock came back to prove him wrong and gave everyone the match they wanted—Cena vs. Rock in Miami (Rock's hometown) at WrestleMania 28 on April 1, 2012.

My only concern, and it is a small one, is match quality. Trust me, the crowd will be off the charts insane, and the atmosphere will definitely be there. How will the match fare? Good? Great? Classic? Huge dud? Disappointing, yet okay? All-time best match ever?!?!

We will all know come April 1st, though. And that is no joke.
