Top Sports Films Of All-Time
I was watching a top 100 films of all time and thought "What are the best sports films of all time?"
I know bleacher report is to report on actual sporting events but, I thought I should share it with the bleacher report community anyway.
These films are in no particular order, just in the way I found them in my film collection.
15. Never Back Down
This is the story of Jake Tyler, a high-school guy who gets involved in street fighting.
14. The Game Plan
The story of Boston Rebels star Joe Kingham who finds out that he has an eight year old daughter.
13. Blades of Glory
A hilarious film about two arch rivals who then compete together to win the doubles skaters gold medal.
12. Seabiscuit
Seabiscuit is a film based on the best-selling book Seabiscuit: An American Legend by Laura Hillenbrand.
The story recounts the life and racing career of Seabiscuit, an undersized and overlooked thoroughbred race horse whose unexpected successes made him a hugely popular sensation in the United States near the end of the Great Depression.
11. Goal (One and Two)
The story of Santiago Munez who rises to stardom staring in his local LA team to Newcastle then to Real Madrid.
10. Escape to Victory
The 1981 film that contained many famous footballers and was the story of the German national team versus the prisoners of war at a game of football.
9. The Greatest Game Ever Played
The story of Francis Ouimet a golfing icon who beat Harry Vardon at the 1913 US Open.
8. Invincible
The oldest rookie in NFL history who rose from a bartender to a Philadelphia Eagles player.
7. Happy Gilmore
Everyone’s favorite golfer as NHL “wannabe” Happy Gilmore becomes a championship winning golfer.
6. The Longest Yard (2005)
This is the remake of the 1974 classic about prison inmates playing an American Football game against their prison guards starring an imprisoned former NFL quarterback Nate Scarborough.
5. Rocky (All of them)
Rocky Balboa’s story of his boxing career.
4. Dodgeball
A bunch of “losers” want to keep their gym open so they enter a dodgeball tournament to get the prize of $50,000.
3. The Benchwarmers
Another story of three guys who never got respect, who then play all of the “mean teams around the state” so that they can earn some respect.
2. The Waterboy
This is the story of a water boy, who rises into a star player for a rubbish team.
1. Cool Runnings
This is the story of the Jamaican bobsled team who shocked everyone at the winter Olympics.
I wish I could have written more on these films but I would’ve been here all day.
I would love to hear from the Bleacher Report community on what their favorite sports films of all time are.
