Kansas City Chiefs Sign Le'Ron McClain, Ready to Make a Deep Run in 2011
It has been reported that the Kansas City Chiefs have signed free agent fullback Le'Ron McClain to a one year deal. This signing is going to wind up as the most underrated signing of the year.
Just when I thought the Chiefs running game couldn't get any better, they go out and get a two time Pro Bowl fullback to block for 2010’s second leading rusher, Jamaal Charles.
Charles already runs behind one of the best offensive lines in the league. Adding one of the league’s best fullbacks will make their running game that much more dynamic.

In an article I recently wrote, Michael Vick, Jamaal Charles Top the 2011 Fantasy Football Top 25 Rankings, I ranked Jamaal Charles as the number one running back, and number two overall behind only Michael Vick.
The McClain signing only strengthens my prediction. It also gives us fans the real possibility of seeing Jamaal Charles eclipse Chris Johnson’s 2006 yards and 16 total touchdowns back in 2009.
Not many people realize this but Thomas Jones lead the Chiefs with 245 carries, while Charles only had 230. That is sure to change in 2011.
Le'Ron McClain had 10 rushing touchdowns back in 2008, so with McClain’s ability to run the ball in short yardage situations, you can expect to see Jones’ contributions on the field slip even more.
With Le’Ron McClain leading the way, Jamaal Charles getting 100 more carries is not out of the realm of possibility, since that is only an uptick of six carries per game.
I say this is a real possibility because head coach Todd Haley is going to want to improve on the Chiefs 2010 season, which was their first playoff season since 2006. The best way to do that, and the most logical way, is to make sure that one of the most electric players in the NFL touches the ball more than 275 times.
What a better way to do this than having a Pro Bowl fullback in Le’Ron McClain plowing the way for one of the NFL’s best. This signing sets up the Kansas City Chiefs for a deep run in the 2011 playoffs.
