Tennessee Titans Training Camp: Jake Locker Has Best Practice of Young Career

Rookie Jake Locker saved his best practice for the hottest day of the year by making numerous scoring throws in 7-on-7 drills Wednesday.

Since Matt Hasselbeck will get his first opportunity to practice with the team starting on Thursday, every other quarterback's reps will go down somewhat.

Locker made the most out of what will most likely be his last day taking first-team snaps.

The two biggest plays that stood out were his passing touchdowns to Damian Williams and Justin Gage in the red zone drills.

Locker also seemed to run the huddle very effectively during the two-minute drills, which is one of the things rookies always seem to struggle with.

Offensive coordinator Chris Palmer was noticeably pleased with Locker's performance all day.

However, it wasn't all positive for Locker in his fourth practice as a pro. He fumbled a snap during a two-minute drill, and had a few questionable throws where he seemed to panic.

Hasselbeck was brought in to not only help the Titans win now, but also to mentor the other young quarterbacks on the roster. He was seen frequently coaching up Locker and the other quarterback on the sidelines.

It's vital that Locker makes the most out of this training camp, because it still remains likely that we'll see him at some point in 2011.

He didn't get OTA's like a normal rookie would get, so learning fast is hopefully something Locker is good at and it seems that way so far.

Hasselbeck has had injury concerns in the past, and if the Titans get off to a rocky start then there's no reason to think the Titans won't give Locker a chance.

The signing of Hasselbeck was still very important in the sense that Locker will get more time to adjust to the NFL game than he would have if he was going to be the week one starter.

All in all, Locker looks to be making significant improvements even in the short amount of time he's gotten so far as a rookie.
