Don't Count On a Phillies' Nation Moniker

Scott EisenlohrNov 8, 2008

After the Boston Red Sox won their second World Series title in 2007, the moniker "Red Sox Nation" was born.

Never mind that the Yankees have won 26 World Series titles. The Cardinals are next with 10 championships. What? Yep. The Sox are in decent shape, winning seven World Series titles, in 2004 and 2007, but the last in 1918 before that.

Watch after a team wins the World Series. Rappers start wearing their sports gear and the fans brag about their teams until the next World Series winner is named.

Now, I am getting ahead of myself. The Phillies have won two World Series, the same as the expansion Florida Marlins. But I do believe, if not next year, which is unlikely, but in the next four years, the Phillies will win another World Series. And if it is next year or the year after that, insane Philies fans will claim domination over the baseball world.

Book it.

But we ain't sharing this one wit' ch'all. Hey, John Kerry, get outta town asking for a cheesesteak w' swizz cheese. You ain't one of us, and you ain't welcome here.

We will take out-of-town fans, but more likely than not, fans outside of Philadelphia love to hate us more than to become one of our own.

Nope. The Philadelphia fan is deep routed in family connections. Somebody, somewhere has an uncle or cousin who got them into Phillies baseball.

Us cheesesteak w' wiz or provolone and fried onions, like soft pretzels, Eagles cheerleaders, the Philie Phanactic, the Jersey shore, hard-hat, hard-working players (hello, Lenny Dykstra and Chase Utley) and travel to out-of-town games better than any other fans in the country. We ain't creatin' a Philly nation.

Nope, you gotta come into our town and love us, our athletes and our city.

And we don't eat quiche.

How 'bout: "Yo, it's Philly. We comin' to get cha." Or just: "Yo, Philly!" like a greeting and statement all in one.
