Is TNA Having Its Best Year in 2011?
TNA Wrestling's Eric Bischoff was recently on this week's Monday Night Mayhem radio show. Bischoff pointed out that TNA is enjoying a solid year so far and that Spike TV is pleased with the company's growth and performance.
However, is TNA having its best year to date as a company?
All signs, despite criticism of what the company is presenting, points that TNA is indeed having its finest year as a company.
When Bischoff and Hulk Hogan signed with TNA, it was expected to see a ratings spike. However, despite breaking ratings records in the short-term, the company struggled at times throughout 2010.
After TNA had a very successful Monday night, January 4th live edition that saw the debut of Hogan and several other big name stars, the company decided to compete against the WWE.
Unfortunately, despite a competitive roster, TNA struggled on Monday nights and that would ultimately hurt its audience growth.
In 2009, TNA averaged a 1.15 rating with 1.57 million viewers. The following year, which saw big name but older stars return or debut with the company, TNA backtracked and averaged a 1.11 rating with 1.48 million viewers.
However, in 2011, TNA, who rebranded itself as Impact! Wrestling, is seeing quite the surge that it had expected in 2010.
It was a make or break year. So far, TNA has averaged an impressive 1.20 rating with 1.67 million viewers. With Bound For Glory arriving and Impact! Wrestling going on the road, TNA is sure to see another surge in coming weeks.
Has the Hogan and Bischoff era worked?
Even though TNA is on pace for its best year as a company, should have the ratings been higher with the roster it has?
The company has a very good roster with plenty of notable names, but the questionable booking style of TNA is often pointed out.
In the end, if TNA sees its ratings and audience growing, will the company give Hogan and Bischoff contract extensions? Many sources indicate they're contracts are expiring soon.
At times, Impact! Wrestling displayed excellent shows to watch. Other times, it did not. Despite it all, the company is growing and the numbers do not lie.
Do Bischoff and Hogan deserve to be back in 2012?
