College Football's Week 11 ATS Picks

Football ManiaxsNov 7, 2008

By Nostradamus.

It is November 7th, and there is a definite chill in the air in Lincoln, NE.  Could it have something to do with the still reeling Huskers?  Maybe.

But what it ultimately means is that College Football is entering into its Championship round.  The chips will not get larger than the ones being played over the next five weeks.

So buckle in tight, and hold one to your chinstrap, 'cuz it is going to get really interesting this November.
It always does.

So what does Week 11 have in store for us College Football Fanatics?

Last week I went a fairly decent 7-4 ATS.  For the season that brings my total to 62-49-3.  Not bad, but it is time to make it better, and it starts right now..........

Penn State @ Iowa (+ 7 1/2)

Are the Nittany Lions still feeling some ill will from the BCS polls since Texas Tech jumped them?  Maybe.  But not likely.  They simply need to take care of the job at hand and they'll get their shot.

Up against them this week is one of their biggest challenges of the year: a pretty decent Iowa team on the road and hungry for a "we're back" win.  What both of these teams have are solid defenses and a stud RB to carry the load when needed.

Shonn Greene and Evan Royster may be recognized as the third and fourth best RB's in the Big 10, but they are still two of the best in the entire country.  The likely difference in this contest will come down to QB and WR play.

This is where Penn State has a decided advantage over the Hawkeyes.  Will they take care of that advantage on the road is the question?  With a windy and cold forecast at hand, it is hard not seeing this game as being a low-scoring affair featuring a predominant field position battle throughout.

Iowa could pull the upset, but I'll still call for the Nits to keep their National Championship hopes alive...they just won't cover the number...

Penn State 22 -- Iowa 16.

Oklahoma State @ Texas Tech (- 3)

Texas Tech is fresh off of what may be the biggest win in the history of the program with their win over Texas last week.  And in thrilling fashion nonetheless.

The real question is how much do they still have left in the tank?

The big factor in this game will come down to how effective Okie State can run the ball.  I'm thinking they will be able to do it quite comfortably.  In my first upset selection of the weekend, I'll look for Kendall Hunter, Dez Bryant, and Zac Robinson to produce a potent offensive attack against an improved but still susceptible Tech defense.

Take Okie State on the money line...

Oklahoma State 38  -- Texas Tech 27.

Notre Dame @ Boston College (- 3 1/2)

The Irish are fresh off of a second half collapse against Pittsburgh last weekend.  BC on the other hand is off of two disappointing losses to North Carolina and Clemson.

In the past four weeks the BC defense has struggled against some less than sensational offenses.  Notre Dame's O isn't exactly a juggernaut, but they should be able to score some points.

We should also expect BC to have some renewed influence to keep their bowl hopes alive.

In a battle of the Fighting Catholics, I'll call for the Irish to roll into Chestnut Hill and pull out a much needed win, and yet another money line play...

Notre Dame 31 -- Boston College 24.

Florida @ Vanderbilt (+ 24)

No doubt about it, Florida and Tim Tebow are on a roll.  Scoring 52 and 49 points on LSU and Georgia respectively over the last few weeks has been nothing short of impressive.  They now find themselves back in the catbird seat of...
