CM Punk: 11 Reasons His Popularity Is Horrible for WWE

David LevinJun 7, 2018

Sometimes, you just need to know your role in this business called wrestling and shut your mouth.

Don't tell that to CM Punk.

He does not listen to what people have to say and does not play well with others.

I guess he was absent when they explained that in wrestling school.

I am of the belief wrestling works with the times and changes to meet the demands of the public and its fans. But I also believe that there are some old school rules we all should follow.

Punk did not get this memo either.

He was hired back because he wanted to use the WWE as his platform and as he said "I love where I work, but I do not love the people I work for."

If he feels that certain about it, then maybe he should consider these reasons as to why him being a heel is better for the company.

11. A Feud with Triple H Is Better If He Is the Heel

1 of 11

The heated words with Triple H Monday night only speak to the resentment Punk has for the people he works for.

And if he came back to cause havoc in and out of the ring, who better to do that with then the COO of the company.

While a lot of us think Triple H turning heel is a good thing, I am not sold on that, as I think the COO fighting for the good of company is a nice switch from the ego-driven foolishness sometime associated with the figurehead that was Mr. McMahon.

Having Punk spew words at a man who defends himself, the company and his wife has merit and resonates with fans on many levels.

10. He Creates More Rivalries If He Is Disliked by the Majority

2 of 11

Often the heel is one taking heat and the one setting the tone for an upcoming rivalry.

R-Truth is learning this now.

Punk has stroke and he knows it.

He is the single most important figure in wrestling now and while he speaks the truth, sometimes the truth is not good for business. Being a heel lets him pick and choose his opponents and feuds.

9. He Can Push Others to Stardom

3 of 11

The heel in him would allow for others to get a push to the top.

A feud with John Cena will not last forever. We have seen this and the fact creative does not stick with feuds very long in the company.

John Morrison, Alex Riley, maybe even Truth if they want to pit heel vs. heel.

They all work if Punk is the main heel and takes the reins.

8. It Opens the Door for Others to Come in and "Save the Company".

4 of 11

If Punk is heel and someone from the past (Jericho) comes to RAW or the WWE to save it from the ills of what has happened recently, then it is fresh and exciting.

Punk said the management of the WWE was wrong in letting wrestlers like Batista, Brock Lesner, Mick Foley and Chris Jericho walk.

If they come back to battle the heel in Punk, it becomes EPIC.

7. It Allows Another Superstar to Make a Face Turn

5 of 11

There is an overabundance of heels within the company and Punk remaining a heel allows someone who "sees the real picture" to turn face.

Maybe a Drew McIntrye, which would help his career. Maybe we see a confrontation with The Miz. Maybe someone like a Ted DiBiase if he finally lives up to his pedigree.

Who knows. Would we like to see someone like Wade Barrett cheered as he battles Punk?

6. His Persona as a Badass Takes a Hit If He Is Liked Too Much

6 of 11

If he is so straight edged and has faced his demons, then he plays his part well.

Punk is the consummate bad boy and while the bad boy image is popular, it is not as popular as it can be. Children and women seem to side with baby faces like Cena.

Raw has worked with a demographic that has reached men between 18-45 for years. Woman and children are now a key focal point of the company and creative.

Having him as a heel also seems more realistic than R-Truth or The Miz.

5. The Vignettes Work Better with Him as a Heel

7 of 11

When he gave his famous shoot speech which led to all this scuttlebutt, he was a hated man. And afterward, he was popular but still hated.

It sounds like an oxymoron.

The speech is more believable if it is given from a man just pissed off at the company. And when he stands in a ring and laughs at John Cena it is better than when he laughs with John Cena.

4. He Is Not Stone Cold

8 of 11

He is the closest thing to Stone Cold the company has had. And the Austin act is still popular.

But what we have learned is that it works because it is not thrown down our throats anymore.

Punk is on every media outlet these days and pretty soon, we may grow tired of it.

3. Two Faces for Summer Slam Does Not Work This Time

9 of 11

Fans want to see two guys grimacing at each other.

Punk is the heel. Cena is the face.

Like the 80s when there was Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair. For the good of the company, there needs to be someone who is a definite face and a definite heel.

2. It's Good for Business

10 of 11

Triple H said the reason why he brought Punk back was simple- it was good for the WWE.

What he really meant was it was good for the almighty dollar.

Punk makes dollars and sense. His character has evolved. Heels are loathed and respected. Cena is too vanilla. Punk provides depth.

And a face to face with your boss and in this case, Triple H, is really good for ratings.

1. Because That Is What Vince McMahon Wants

11 of 11

Vince is still the brainchild behind this. And don't think he is isn't pulling the puppet strings here.

Punk and McMahon, if the feud is true, don't like each other.

Since McMahon "left" the company with applause and respect, Punk then loses respect for taking jabs at the fallen man.
