Bojana Jovanovski Faces Travel Mix-Up
There was a misunderstanding of epic proportions for Serbian Bojana Jovanovski this past Saturday.
She booked a trip to Carlsbad this week for the Mercury Insurance Open, but to her surprise, the travel agent put her on the wrong flight to the Carlsbad in New Mexico—not California.
The world No. 53 spent the day traveling from Washington D.C. to Dallas to Albuquerque to Carlsbad, New Mexico while being totally unaware that she was in the wrong state until her ride never showed and a pedestrian questioned her as to why a tennis player would be there.
By herself late in the night outside the airport, she called the tournament and spoke to the driver who was meant to pick her up and claimed he was there waiting for her. Finally the two discovered that she was in the wrong Carlsbad altogether.
She ended up having to stay the night and book a flight to the larger hub airport in New Mexico that flew to San Diego. Jovanovski then transferred to the correct Carlsbad only 30 minutes before she was meant to get on the court that afternoon.
Despite all the bad luck, she got on the court to play Italian ninth seed Roberta Vinci, but unfortunately lost 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in one hour, 47 minutes compared to her two-day long mix-up.
Tennis players are forced to travel all around the world to obscure cities that may be foreign to them. Next stop for Jovanovski is Toronto, Canada and maybe this time she will double check her tickets or fire that travel agent.
