A Short Bio On How I Got Into Boxing
Some people I know have been asking me, "Alex, How did you get into the world of Boxing?"
After graduating from St. Rita High School on the South Side of Chicago in 2007, I took off a year from school to clear my head and re-focus myself on what I want to do in life. During my "soul-searching" journey, I hooked up with a friend of my father's, a veteran cutman named Chuck Szymanski, and became a licensed cornerman in Illinois.
I have been a boxing fan my entire life, yet I had only been to one boxing match in my life, in 2006. (actually, I went to a Mike Tyson fight in 1988, but I was still in the womb, with my mom sitting in the cheapies in Las Vegas.) Despite my lack of knowledge of live professional boxing, my Television and Internet experiance qualified me enough to help out near the ring.

So far, I have worked four fights in the Chicagoland area between June and November of 2008, (I just left working a fight in Cicero just hours before writing.) And it's been a tremendous experiance so far. I have worked with several fighters from various backgrounds. I worked with a former MMA champ turned boxer and a couple of Local Golden Gloves Medalists.
My job as a cornerman is to basically hold the spit bucket and ice between rounds and make sure there is no water on the mat once the bell rings. However, when dealing with small-time promotions, other job duties may apply without notice at any given moment.
After my first fight, I decided to parlay my sporting experiance into hobby writing for BleacherReport.com. I signed up and wrote my first ever article about Boxing
Now that I am moving to Minnesota in January 2009, I hope to not only work in my homestate, but to also work fight in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. And I will continue to share my insight here on BleacherReport.com.
