Ronnie Brown Signing Continues Philadelphia Eagles' String of Surprise Moves

Jarred KiddAug 2, 2011

The Philadelphia Eagles website is reporting that they have just agreed to a one year contract with former Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown.

One of the few remaining concerns for the Birds was acquiring a competent backup to Lesean McCoy, having lost last year's backup Jerome Harrison to free agency.

This move accomplishes that and then some. Ronnie Brown often ran the Wildcat formation when he played with the Dolphins, and his familiarity with the formation should help him with his new team. After all, the Eagles have shown that they are not afraid to find creative ways to utilize Michael Vick and all the speed they have on offense.

Sure, Ronnie Brown is 29 and in running back years that leads you to believe that he's on the downside of his career. But he's got a real nice combination of athleticism and strength that should complement McCoy nicely.

It's just another move that backs up the Eagles' front office statement that they are going all in this year to win a Super Bowl Championship.

Today also marked the arrival of Jeremy Maclin to Eagles training camp at Lehigh University. Apparently, he's been struggling with a bout of mononucleousis, which has caused him to lose around 20 pounds.

With his return and Brown's signing, the offense looks to be just one man short of running on all cylinders. Of course, that one cylinder would be Desean Jackson, and without him the engine is nowhere near as powerful as it can be.

So here's hoping the two of them can hug it out sooner rather than later, because this offense is ready to...Fly Eagles Fly, on the Road to Victory.
