Wrestling: What Happened to All the Momentum from Last Week's Raw Event?

David LevinJun 7, 2018

I thought we would see more of the gripping drama last night on Monday Night Raw that we had on last week’s show.

To be honest, I was disappointed.

There was so much to build on with the return of CM Punk and the first program that new COO Triple H had hosted, that I knew for sure, there would be more fanfare, a real fever-pitched atmosphere and some gutsy new ruling.

I did not get that either.

The opening vignette between Triple H and CM Punk was a great way to start things off. Showing the fans that this was going to be a great moment in WWE, and as Triple H explained that Punk, in his own twisted way is good for business.

And the back and forth banter from the two was great to see. Two superstars shedding light on what they think the issues are with Punk’s return. I really wanted Triple H to smack the … out of him.

But it did not happen.

If RAW is going to escape the “Vince McMahon” syndrome where we wonder what is going on (yes, we know McMahon is running the show behind the scenes) behind creative.

And we don’t need John Laurinitas pulling a Gerald Brisco to prove that McMahon is still in the mix.

CM Punk vs. John Cena was a given at Summer Slam. It was a forgone conclusion when Cena reclaimed the WWE Heavyweight Title from Rey Mysterio (who I still think got a bum deal) and we heard Punk’s music over the loudspeakers.

The program last night was lacking. Matches were not as interesting as they could be and while the tag match between The Miz and R-Truth vs. John Morrison and Mysterio was entertaining, we could have seen more from it. What we did learn, is that Truth and Miz make a pretty great heel team.

The Divas match did nothing for me and Beth Phoenix’s turn on Kelly Kelly was also really predictable. Her size, strength and power prove she is not a good face and works better as a heel.

There are less than two weeks until Summer Slam. I am wanting more from creative. I am not one who liked the music competition at the end of the night and if Punk and Cena are such “rivals” could they stop smiling at each other in the ring, it ruins the mood.

Let’s hope next week is a better build up because this one, even though the obvious was stated, left me a little empty.

Not a good thing when you are hoping for bigger and better things from a new creative angle.
