Nonito Donaire and K-9 Added to Cotto vs Margarito Undercard
According to Boxing Scene, WBC and WBO bantamweight (118 lbs.) world champion Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KOs) is planning to make his super bantamweight (122 lbs.) debut on the undercard of Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito in Madison Square Garden on December 3rd.
Currently, he is preparing for a comeback on October 1st or 15th after settling all the issues with his promoter, Top Rank. This will likely be a unification match against Anselmo Moreno (31-1-1, 11 KOs) for his WBA title.
Donaire will then move up in weight to face either WBO super bantamweight world champion Jorge Arce (57-6-2, 44 KOs) or the winner of Mexican legend Rafael Marquez (40-6, 36 KOs) vs. WBC super bantamweight world champion Toshiaki Nishioka (38-4-3, 24 KOs).
In other news from Ring Magazine, Cornelius "K-9" Bundrage (30-4, 18 KOs) was challenged by "Raging Bull" Pawel Wolak (29-1-1, 19 KOs). Bundrage accepted. Wolak said:
""Cornelius Bundrage has been coming up as a possible name for me. I think that coming back on the Cotto card is probably the best thing for me."
"
Then Bundrage happily responded:
""I was so happy and excited that I tried to call Don King and Emanuel Steward, but I mis-dialed and wound up calling 911. When I finally talked to Emanuel, he basically said, 'Let's do it.' I'm the world champion, and I'm not mandatory to fight Pawel Wolak, but I think that I'd give him the opportunity."
"
Wolak will be coming off a majority draw with Delvin Rodriguez (25-5-3, 14 KOs). Bundrage is coming off a unanimous decision win against Sechew Powell (26-2, 15 KOs), the man who gave him his first loss.
Bundrage hopes the winner between him and Wolak will face Cotto next, even though him and Cotto are both trained by the legendary Emmanuel Steward. Bundrage had this to say about that:
""So after I beat Wolak, I would want the fight with Miguel Cotto because I want to fight the top, top guys. Manny already told me that he wouldn't stop me from eating. He told me that he would eat some popcorn, have a Coke and a smile and sit back and watch the fight."
"
Steward chimed in to correct Bundrage and said:
""It wouldn't be a Coke. It would be a Sprite or something else, because I don't drink caffeine."
"
If the undercard of Cotto vs. Margarito continues to grow like this, then Madison Square Garden may be host to the best fight card of the year.
