UFC 135: Rampage Calls Jon Jones "Scared", Says He's Fought Better Fighters

Jordy McElroyJun 3, 2018

Jon Jones is the best light heavyweight in the world?

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson didn't get that memo.

"I'm not scared of [Jones]. I don't care about his flashy stuff. I know he's going to try to walk out and do the flying knee right off the bat. I'm not worried about none of that. I've seen it. I've fought better fighters than him," Rampage told Conner Cordova of MMAWeekly.com.

The two light heavyweights are scheduled to face off in the main event of UFC 135, which takes place on September 24 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.

The hype surrounding Jones, who is only 24 years of age, has been compared to that of a young Mike Tyson. Since joining the UFC, the Rochester native has wowed fans by displaying a technical brilliance in every aspect of fighting.

When Jones steps into the octagon, no one knows what to expect. The anticipation of watching him perform has become circus-like, and fans are captivated by it.

While the world praised Jones' arrival after his destruction of Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in March, Rampage believes the outcome of the bout had more to do with Shogun's health issues than Jones' "otherworldly" talent.

"The toughest fight Jon Jones had was against Stephan Bonnar, and Stephan Bonnar can't bust a grape. He went three rounds with Stephan Bonnar, and come on man, Stephan Bonnar is [expletive]," said Rampage. "He fought Shogun, and Shogun was rusty coming off a year [layoff] from an injury. I'm not taking anything away from Jon Jones. He's great, but he lacks experience."

Can talent overcome years of experience?

We'll see who's left howling at the end of UFC 135.
