NFL Free Agency: Where Will Lofa Tatupu End Up?

Eric RiveraJun 2, 2018

After being asked to take a pay cut in Seattle, Lofa Tatupu asked the Seahawks for his release.

His wish was granted.

The seventh year linebacker out of Southern California is fresh off a season with 88 tackles, one sack, one interception, and one touchdown. The 6', 250-pounder is in the prime of his career at 28 years old, and could have more than a few good years of football left in him.

Tatupu is a three time Pro Bowler and one time All-Pro selection, and brings plenty to the table in terms of athleticism and durability. With the exception of 2009, where he missed 11 games, Lofa Tatupu has only missed one game during his career.

Adam Schefter reported earlier today that Tatupu was visiting the Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders, who are known for forking over large contracts to their free agents, could pose as a serious candidate for Tatupu's new home.

The team has lost Nnamdi Asomugha and Thomas Howard to free agency this year, and could look for potential replacements for both key cogs in their defense. The first of these players could be found in Tatupu. Not only do the Raiders provide a void for Lofa to fill, but they can also convince him that they can provide his best financial situation.

The market for linebackers this free agency is running dry, so Lofa Tatupu needs to find a home quickly, or he will find himself sitting at home when the NFL season starts.
