Roger Federer's Top 10 Shots of 2011 Thus Far

Jeff CohnJun 2, 2018

Roger Federer has blessed sports lovers everywhere with his talent and spectacular shot-making over the years.

But just how often does he hit an outrageously skilled and improvised shot and make it as well? The answer is, whenever he wants (or so it seems).

The year 2011 is a little bit past the halfway mark, and many important tournaments and matches are yet to be played, but this slideshow will show just how ready Federer is to produce magic on the tennis court at any moment.

Here is a compilation of the Maestro's best shots and overall points, in descending order, from just the first half of this year alone.

Honorable Mention: Fake Drop-Shot

1 of 11

Honestly, who else can pull that off? Start at 2:19.

10. Inside-out Forehand While Moonwalking

2 of 11

The Swiss superstar can pull off some dance moves (the moonwalk and the backwards running man) while he hits winners.

By the way, if I swung my racket straight up like that, I would either hit myself or knock the ball out of the park with the frame (or both).

9. Roger's Corkscrew Overhead

3 of 11

After Roger produces this 180 degree, twisting backhand smash and follows it up with a put-away, Lopez can only kick the clay in frustration.

Start at 2:54.

8. Federer's Forehand on the Run Against Rafa

4 of 11

Although Roger's performance in the match in its entirety was shabby, this passing shot against Nadal proved that he can usually come up with exquisite shots, even under tough conditions.

7. Around the Net Post

5 of 11

This time, it's Roger playing with Rafa in doubles against Kim Clijsters and Samantha Stosur for the Rally for Relief charity event played just prior to the 2011 Australian Open.

It's a good thing that Roger's partner kept Kim's ball in play when it was headed out; otherwise, this around-the-net shot wouldn't have been possible.

Start at 9:54.

6. Federer's Perfect Lob

6 of 11

Djokovic may be the world's No. 1 player right now, but Roger still is the No. 1 shot-maker on tour.

Start the video at 8:43 to see Roger fight off a break point brilliantly by launching the perfect backhand slice lob just over Novak's vertical reach.

If you want to see another cool point from Roger, check out 7:49, where he displays his phenomenal defensive skills to break his opponent's serve.

5. The Red Clay Drop-Shot

7 of 11

This rally showcased the many skills of Federer and Nadal.

The Swiss came out on top this time.

4. Another Tweener from Roger Federer

8 of 11

At 4-4 in the third set of a tightly contested battle against Richard Gasquet, Roger decided to hit another stroke of genius.

Check out his improvisational skills as he hits the tweener as if it was a ground stroke. Roger remains "oh so cool when he makes connection with the ball."

3. Run Federer Run

9 of 11

Roger outsmarts his new rival, Novak Djokovic, yet again. He had no right to win the point and used his agility and tennis intelligence to keep himself in the point, eventually stealing it away.

2. Down-the-Line Backhand Flick

10 of 11

Roger Federer shows his defensive skills again, wonderfully timing his slides on the red clay.

Nobody can go from defense to offense the way that he can, and this video only reinforces that fact.

1. Yet ANOTHER Tweener from Roger Federer

11 of 11

This is the best shot—not only because of how he struck it (a tweener from the baseline for a clean winner).

Thomas Schoorel's forehand shot changed direction and speed after hitting the net cord, and the Swiss was forced to improvise quickly while running the wrong way, but who could've predicted this would occur?
