Bobby 'the Brain' Heenan: Best Performer in WWE, WCW, and Wrestling History
It's a bold statement to make. I make said statement fully biased in my conviction that throughout the storied history of wrestling, no one man made it more flat out fun than Mr. Heenan. This man was entertainment long before WWE shifted their focus and mission statements.
While head of the Heenan Family, Mr. Heenan was the voice of those better kept away from promos. His vocabulary and antics are the very stuff of legend. I don't possess the time, space, and proper articulation at the same time to rehash them and come across as more than a ham and egger.
The fact is, Mr Heenan captivated legions of fans for decades. His flair for the dramatic, and comedic timing are unmatched to this day. I don't know of another individual that has been lauded with more praise, admiration, respect, and even envy by so many "in the business" than The Brain. Even Kevin Nash speaks reverently of Mr. Heenan. In an episode of "Last Call with Scott Hall" on YouTube, Nash summed it up best saying that there will never be anyone like Bobby.
Learning of Mr. Heenan's cancer diagnosis was a shock, and immediately followed by tears. I've never had the privilege of meeting The Brain, but as a rabid fan from 1982 to present, I loved his body of work. I felt like a friend had been dealt a death card. His subsequent treatment, and convalescence is truly an inspiring story, and only makes me respect him more as a man. I am unashamed to openly and publicly admit that he is my role model, and personal hero. I can only aspire to become a man like Bobby Heenan. I lack the character and temerity he exudes effortlessly.
In closing, I would like to implore each and everyone that has read this far to explore a bit farther. Check out YouTube's footage of Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. Old fans and new alike can discover his talent, or bathe themselves anew in forgotten memories. Scour the Internet, garage sales, flea markets and swap meets for tapes and DVDs of him, and see with fresh eyes how this man revolutionized the WWE and how they do business today. Bobby's work was all about entertainment and showmanship decades before it was the mission statement of the current brand. Be well Mr. Heenan. Enjoy a long life, and know you shall always be immortal in the eyes and minds of countless fans besides myself.
