Badasses Is a Book About Smart, Strong Men Who Want to "Just Win, Baby!"

Honor Warren Wells TheTorchJun 2, 2018

The Oakland Raiders have a historical image of being the smart, strong, bad men on the football field. A book titled "Badasses" tells the story of players called Snake, Foo, Dr. Death and John Madden's Oakland Raiders.

One thing has not changed and was demonstrated by the abstained vote of the Oakland Raiders and Al Davis. The move to abstain stood out during the recent vote to resolve the 2011 lockout.

Al Davis continues to go against the grain. On page 40 of the book, author Peter Richmond wrote: "Somewhere back inside the citadel, he (Al Davis) was (and is) plotting his next move against the grain."

In the jacket of the book it says, "Peter Richmond tells the story of Oakland's wrecking crew of castoffs, psychos, oddballs and geniuses who won six division titles and a Super Bowl championship."

John Madden managed to get the best football performance from this group of "badass" players.

The author of the book, released in 2010, went into the locker room and onto the field with guys like Willie Brown and Ken Stabler, to name a few.

If NFL football is supposed to be played "down and dirty" then a group of men listed in Richmond's book did so and did it very well.

Do the Oakland Raiders have some "badasses" positioned on the 2011 roster? Let's get ready for the season and support the Oakland Raiders and show up and see!

Today's NFL teams are sometimes described as "technocratic," according to a quote on the cover of Richmond's book.

Some say the 2011 teams might be "from another, duller universe altogether." Well, there are reportedly more than 100 billion galaxies out there in the universe.

All some folks can do is hope that the current roster of Oakland Raiders draws strength and smarts from a place parallel to the one the "badasses" drew their smarts and determination to "just win, baby!"
