AC Milan Transfer News: Lucho Gonzalez the Latest Player Linked to Milan

Tim FontenaultJun 3, 2018

AC Milan are churning the transfer news wires yet again with the latest in a long line of rumored moves for players across Europe as ESPN Soccernet is reporting that Olympique Marseille midfielder Lucho Gonzalez is ready to leave the French club this summer.

According to agent Federico Simonian, Milan and rivals Roma are two of the several interested teams around Europe.

The 30-year-old Argentine, estimated to be valued at โ‚ฌ13 million, turned heads this past season with eight goals in Ligue 1 and two in the Champions League in 44 games while staying injury-free after a rough first season with Marseille when he was injured on three separate occasions.

Milan are on the hunt for at least one more midfielder and speculation is that as many as two could arrive before the transfer window ends.

Simonian said that more information will come after the weekend in regards to his client's destination.

The arrival of Gonzalez at Milan could be affected by another transfer rumor. His arrival would likely only come if Milan's attempts to get Riccardo Montolivo fail. The want-away Fiorentina captain has been the subject of heavy links to Milan and just recently, Milan placed a formal bid for the 26-year-old.

Milan have apparently been keen on the midfielder all summer, but Fiorentina, despite knowing the captain wants away from Florence, have been strict on their valuation which is roughly โ‚ฌ10 million as they want to cash in rather than see him leave on a Bosman transfer when his contract expires next June.

Milan's bid does exceed this. The club have offered โ‚ฌ6 million cash plus Alberto Paloschi, who according to transfermarket.de is worth โ‚ฌ4.5 million.

If either player arrives soon, it would mean that Milan still have one player on the way. Adriano Galliani recently declared that the so-called Mr. X would not be announced until August 29, two days after Milan's opener in Serie A at Cagliari.

Galliani used the same sort of subtle and secretive tactics last offseason. The club made early moves for Marco Amelia, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Mario Yepes and Kevin-Prince Boateng before adding Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho in the final days of the market, with Ibra's introduced at halftime of Milan's 4-0 opening win against Lecce and Robinho's purchase announced a couple days later.
