Albert Haynesworth, Chad Ochocinco Sign with Patriots; Show Bold Bill Belichick

Say what you want about the quiet and sometimes secretive Bill Belichick.

Attack his perceived arrogance. Assault his integrity. Disparage his character. Spurn him for his 2007 Spygate involvement. Envy his Super Bowl victories. And, criticize his rumpled, off the rack hooded choice for sideline apparel. 

But don't ever question Belichick's football boldness and unorthodox brilliance.  

Yesterday the New England Patriots unexpectedly acquired self-absorbed, self-promoting Cincinnati Bengal Chad Ochocinco and former Washington Redskin big beefy free agency bust Albert Haynesworth. These surprising additions not only add to Belichick's lustrous and checkered legacy, they should strengthen an already strong 2010 New England team that finished last season 14 - 2. 

The oft maligned, mostly revered, but always contentious New England Patriot coach has long fanned flames for impassioned debate about football. The NFL Lockout may have distracted many NFL insiders from anticipating Belichick's brash maneuvering. They didn't see these acquisitions coming.

However, they'll now have plenty to say and write about Belichick's recent calculated gambles.

A no nonsense coach with zero tolerance for laziness, tardiness, mindlessness and tireless self-aggrondizement, Belichick is a godsend to Ochocinco and Haynesworth. Knowing that Belichick bounced Randy Moss and benched Wes Welker last year for failing to toe the Patriots line, these two new Pats should quickly morph into appreciative new Patriot automatons.

Watch for Pro Bowl type seasons from these new Pats, now gratefully indebted to BB for emancipating them from the shackles of spiraling careers at two under-performing NFL franchises. Expect Ochocinco and Haynesworth to be squeaky clean, model citizens in their new New England home.

Look for Albert to run, not walk, past bountiful buffet lines, to show up on time for practice and to stuff the run in the center of on an already powerful Pats front line.  

Also, watch for Chad to dance his way past would be defenders, corral pin point Tom Brady passes and gently drop his TD catches to the New England turf - eschewing selfish end zone celebrations and even refusing to tweet about his scores. With careers reclaimed and revived in New England,

Ochocinco and Haynesworth will quietly and professionally take care of business in their new Patriots' uniforms. Otherwise, if they don't, the taciturn Belichick will have a few choice words to share with them...as he escorts them out the door.
