NFL Mock Draft Rounds 1 and 2
A little over 5 months to go before the 2009 NFL Draft. I'm starting to get a clearer picture on who teams should select.
I'm adding a second rounder now to the mock. Every month until the first week in April I will add another round. In April I will update my mocks every few days or so.
Also the order of picks is based on what I believe will be the standings for each team at the end of the Super Bowl.

Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
1. Detroit Lions- DE, Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech
Call this pick dumb but so are the Detroit Lions. Detroit really needs a quarterback but for some reason they have faith in Daunte Culpepper. Jon Kitna will either be retired or on a different crappy team next year. Dan Orlovsky is only a project right now. Drew Stanton hardly sees the field which is hurting the potential he had when Detroit drafted him. Michael Johnson is a great Defensive End. Michael is very quick and agile at 6"7 260 pounds.
2. Cincinatti Bengals- OT, Michael Oher, Ole Miss
A pathetic team needs a great Franchise offensive lineman like Michael Oher. Cincinnati on the ground this season averages only 86 yards. The Bengals offensive line is very bad. Michael Oher is an outstanding pass blocker who has overcome some off the field difficulties.
3. Kansas City Chiefs- QB, Matthew Stafford, Georgia
Kansas City's quarterbacks are extremely inaccurate and aren't team leaders. Tyler Thigpen, Brodie Croyle, and Damon Huard have all started at least one game for Kansas City. Together they have a combined 1464 yards, 7 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. On the upside they have a passer who has a perfect Quarterback rating, his name is-- Mark Bradley. Stafford will be a day one starter and should have an impact just like Joe Flacco or Matt Ryan.
4. Oakland Raiders- OT, Andre Smith, Alabama
Great job, Al Davis. Release your best defensive player and see what happens. DeAngelo Hall was cut on November fifth. On offense the Raiders are equally as pathetic. Jamarcus Russel averages a terrible 143 yards passing per game. Andre Smith will be able to provide more blocking for Darren McFadden as well as keeping Jamarcus Russell on his feet.
5. St. Louis Rams- OT, Eugene Monroe, Virginia
St. Louis has managed to win 2 games so far! Still, they are pretty bad. Orlando Pace is old and should be seeking retirement very soon. Eugene Monroe is an underrated offensive tackle who many believe to be the best in the draft. St. Louis is already a good running football team that will get even better in 2009.
6. San Francisco 49'ers- WR, Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech
They don't get much better than Michael Crabtree. Bryant Johnson has been a bust since San Fran signed him in the off-season. Isaac Bruce is still talented but is aging by the day. Josh Morgan will be around for a while and I think that he could one day become a pro-bowl caliber receiver. Michael Crabtree is a playmaker. Along with Frank Gore I believe that the 49'ers will be a much improved squad.
7. Seattle Seahawks- FS, William Moore, Missouri
Seattle's defense is the only thing they have going for them right now and well their defense sucks for lack of a better term. Seattle has averaged 258 passing yards allowed per game which is 31st in the league behind only San Diego. William Moore is 6"1 225 pounds and a tremendous tackler. Moore is also very quick running a 4.5.
8. Houston Texans- CB, Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State
Houston's pass defense ranks 14th in the league but it could improve. Malcolm Jenkins is slipping on my board but he should still be taken in the top 10. Malcolm Jenkins is very experienced and very mature. Dunta Robinson and Malcolm Jenkins makes for an impressive duo.
9. Miami Dolphins- DE, George Selvie, USF
I'm a big fan of the way Selvie plays the game. He's very undersized at 6"4 245 pounds but he plays like he is 6"6 285. Selvie can't shut down the run and he is a great pass rusher. His most impressive stat is how fast he can run at around a 4.6. Miami will be blessed here if they can land Selvie at number 9.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars- CB, Vontae Davis, Illinois
Jacksonville in the off-season brought in Cornerback Drayton Florence which hasn't panned out that well for them. Jacksonville has struggled against the pass all year. The offensive line may be a problem but it's due to injuries. Vontae Davis is a tremendous cornerback.
11. Cleveland Browns- DE, Brian Orakpo, Texas
Cleveland's defensive line is pretty awful besides Shaun Rogers. Brian Orakpo at this spot would be a steal. Brian Orakpo is a great run stuffer and pass rusher which is what Cleveland is praying for right now.
12. San Diego Chargers- S, Taylor Mays, USC
San Diego currently has the last ranked pass defense in the league. Eric Weddle is solid but Clinton Hart is constantly giving up big plays. Taylor Mays is also a steal here because I believe he could easily go in the top 10 with how great he is. San Diego has many options here.
13. Green Bay Packers- DE, Greg Hardy, Ole Miss
After cutting Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila the Packers are very slim in depth on the defensive line. Justin Harrell is going to be a solid player but I believe he's more of a defensive tackle. Greg Hardy is the best player available which Ted Thompson usually always goes for.
14. New Orleans Saints- LB, James Laurinaitis, Ohio State
With the drafts top two safeties gone already the New Orleans Saints should go after a linebacker. James Laurinaitis is one of the toughest and smartest players in all of college football. Laurinaitis should be a great football player.
15. Denver Broncos- LB, Brandon Spikes, Florida
Denver's defense is amongst the worst in the league. D.J. Williams is the only linebacker on Denver's squad that they should have faith in for years to come. Boss Bailey is about as strong as a four year old. Nate Webster isn't terrible but he isn't exactly great either. Brandon Spikes is a very quick and athletic linebacker that will help turn Denver's defense around.
16. Indianapolis Colts- DT, Sen'Derrick Marks, Auburn
Indianapolis hasn't been able to have a good defensive tackle in quite some time. Trading a second round pick for Anthony "Booger" McFarland didn't turn out too well. Ed Johnson's recent marijuana scandal also gives questions about his future with the team. Sen'Derrick Marks should be the answer finally.
17. Minnesota Vikings- QB, Tim Tebow, Florida
I love Tebow with this pick. Tarvaris Jackson should never start again in his career unless he learns how to throw to players with the same color jersey that he has on. Gus Frerotte is likely to retire after this year. John David Booty is currently a project and won't be a starter for a few more years. Tim Tebow is a very mobile quarterback who can both throw and pass.
18. Buffalo Bills- OLB, Aaron Curry, Wake Forest
Buffalo really doesn't have that many needs that they need to fill. Angelo Crowell just had knee surgery and there is no telling whether he will be the same player that he was in 2007. Aaron Curry is the best player available and would be a great fit in Buffalo.
19. New York Jets- RB, Chris Wells, Ohio State
You may be thinking "Why a running back? Thomas Jones is still really good!" Yes, this is true but Thomas Jones is nearly 31 years old and is slowing down in his career. Being able to have a 1-2 punch isn't bad. Think of all the teams who have 2 great running backs-- Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, and Jacksonville.
20. Chicago Bears- LB, Rey Maualuga, USC
Steal of the draft right here. Rey Maualuga is a great player but my gut tells me that he will slip slightly in the draft. Chicago's Hunter Hillenmeyer should be on his way out of Chicago after this year. Lance Briggs, Brian Urlacher, and Rey Maualuga would make for the leagues best linebacking core.
21. Atlanta Falcons- NT, Terrence Cody, Alabama
Terrence Cody is a 365 pound run stopper. Atlanta is a much improved football team that can get even better with this pick.
22. New England Patriots- CB, D.J. Moore, Vanderbilt
New England's pass defense doesn't have much star quality. Ellis Hobbs is more of a nickle-back and a kick returner. Deltha O'Neal is their best corner and he still isn't that great of a cover guy. D.J. Moore should start day one in New England.
23. Arizona Cardinals- C, Alex Mack, California
Arizona needs to improve their offensive line great amounts. Alex Mack is one of the best center's the draft will see in quite some time. Mack is a great interior blocker and will help Tim Hightower become a pro bowl caliber player.
24. Detroit Lions from Dallas Cowboys- OT, Ciron Black, LSU
Still no quarterback in the first round for Detroit. Detroit desperately needs a dominant left tackle and they could get that if Ciron Black is still on the board here. Detroit is rebuilding as they have been ever since Barry Sanders retired.
25. Baltimore Ravens- WR, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland
Baltimore has a good quarterback in Joe Flacco and the future stud running back being Ray Rice. Baltimore needs an offensive target and they will get it with Heyward-Bey. Darrius is 6"2 205 pounds and runs around a 4.3.
26. Philadelphia Eagles- G, Duke Robinson, Oklahoma
Philadelphia needs offensive line help right away. Duke Robinson is the best offensive lineman in the draft in my opinion. Jon Runyan will be a free agent after this season which leaves a hole in the O-line.
27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- WR, Jeremy Maclin, Missouri
Joey Galloway has hardly seen the field this season which means he's injured often and getting old. Dexter Jackson is more of a return specialist than a receiver. Jeremy Maclin is a great target for Jeff Garcia next year.
28. Washington Redskins- Trevard Lindley, CB, Kentucky
Shawn Springs turn 34 years old one month prior to the 2009 NFL Draft. Fred Smoot couldn't cover if his life depended on it. Trevard lindley will make a big impact but he will likely be a backup for his first couple of years until Shawn Springs is gone.
29. Philadelphia Eagles from Carolina Panthers- TE, Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State
Philadelphia tried to make a blockbuster trade for Kellen Winslow prior to the tradeline which was rejected by Cleveland. Brandon Pettigrew is the best tight end in the draft by far and away. L.J. Smith has butterfingers and should be either released or traded by the end of the season.
30. Pittsburgh Steelers- CB, Victor Harris, Virginia Tech
Pittsburgh's DeShea Townsend is almost 33 years old which decreased his chances of being a Steeler after the 2008 season. Victor Harris is a good cover cornerback. Pittsburgh should make a move for a cornerback with this pick.
31. Tennessee Titans- DT, Terrance Taylor, Michigan
Tennessee, now would be a great time to get a franchise wide receiver, Percy Harvin is still available! Nah, let's focus on the side of the ball which we are best on. Albert Haynesworth will be hard to resign after this season because he will want a lot of money coming his way.
32. New York Giants- LB, Brian Cushing, USC
New York will have a great defense next year. Osi Umenyiora will be back which should move Mathias Kiwanuka back to outside linebacker. Brian Cushing is a great linebacker and a guy you can depend on. New York has struck gold again two years straight with the last pick in the first round.
Round 2:
33. Detroit Lions- WR, Percy Harvin, Florida
Need a wide receiver to fill in for Roy Williams.
34. Cincinnati Bengals- RB, Knowshon Moreno, Georgia
Chris Perry and Cedric Benson are pretty awful.
35. Kansas City Chiefs- ILB, Dannell Ellerbe, Georgia
Pat Thomas hasn't worked out the way Kansas City thought he would.
36. Oakland Raiders- S, Myron Rolle, Florida State
I have a feeling Michael Huff will be traded or released.
37. St. Louis Rams- CB, Darius Butler, Connecticut
St. Louis needs to improve their secondary.
38. San Francisco 49'ers- CB, Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest
San Francisco's pass defense is always getting shredded with the long ball.
39. Seattle Seahawks- WR, Brandon LaFell, LSU
Deion Branch is never healthy. Bobby Engram is getting old.
40. Houston Texans- OLB, Tyrone McKenzie, South Florida
Xavier Adibi hasn't lived up to his expectations.
41. Miami Dolphins- WR, Juaquin Iglesias, Oklahoma
Ted Ginn JR and Greg Camarillo aren't a good duo.
42. Jacksonville Jaguars- G, Herman Johnson, LSU
Jacksonville needs offensive line help.
43. Cleveland Browns- CB, Kevin Barnes, Maryland
Terry Cousin is nearing the end of his career.
44. New England Patriots from San Diego- SS, Emanuel Cook, South Carolina
Rodney Harrison suffered a career-ending injury against the Broncos.
45. Green Bay Packers- CB, Mark Parson, Ohio
A starter for the future.
46. New York Giants from New Orleans Saints- DE, Auston English, Oklahoma
Depth behind Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora.
47. Denver Broncos- DT, Geno Atkins, Georgia
A run stuffer and a potential starter.
48. Indianapolis Colts- DT, Peria Jerry, Ole Miss
Two defensive tackles already. It's much needed though.
49. Minnesota Vikings- TE, Chase Coffman, Missouri
A potential replacement of Visanthe Shiancoe.
50. Buffalo Bills- C, Jonathan Luigs, Arkansas
A great interior blocker for Marshawn Lynch.
51. New York Jets- T, Jason Smith, Baylor
New York needs offensive tackle depth.
52. Chicago Bears- OT, Eben Britton, Arizona
John Tait is almost 34 and needs to be replaced when he's gone.
53. Atlanta Falcons- SS, Patrick Chung, Oregon
Lawyer Milloy will likely retire at the end of this season.
54. New England Patriots- DE/OLB, Clint Sintim, Virginia
New England needs a big upgrade to their front seven.
55. Arizona Cardinals- OT, Russell Okung, Oklahoma State
A good compliment to Levi Brown.
56. Dallas Cowboys- CB, Mike Mickens, Cincinnati
There is no telling if Adam Jones will be on the team next year.
57. Baltimore Ravens- CB, Asher Allen, Georgia
Baltimore's cornerbacks are getting older every year.
58. Philadelphia Eagles- S, Kam Chancellor, Virginia Tech
Brian Dawkins doesn't have too much left in the tank.
59. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- RB, Javon Ringer, Michigan State
Warrick Dunn is likely in his last year.
60. Miami Dolphins from Washington Redskins- FS, Derek Pegues, Mississippi State
Yeremiah Bell shouldn't be a starter in the NFL.
61. Carolina Panthers- DT, Evander Hood, Missouri
The replacement of Kris Jenkins has arrived in Carolina.
62. Pittsburgh Steelers- DE, Tyson Jackson, LSU
Aaron Smith will be 33 a few weeks prior to the 2009 draft.
63. Tennessee Titans- OLB, Marcus Freeman, Ohio State
Keith Bulluck will be 32 years old in April.
64. New York Giants- SS, Michael Hamlin, Clemson
James Butler is good but not good enough to be starting for the super bowl champions.
Winners of the draft thus far:
1. Cincinatti Bengals
2. Denver Broncos
3. Minnesota Vikings
4. San Francisco 49'ers
5. New York Jets
Losers of the draft thus far:
1. Indianapolis Colts
2. Kansas City Chiefs
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
4. Arizona Cardinals
5. Detroit Lions
