Daily Buzz
We’ve had 3 games since we last met, 4 points. Not awful, but not enough. Let’s talk about last night.
For the first time, I’m really starting to see the forwards get into some sort of rhythm, and God help me, I LOVE the MODIN-PECA-TORRES line. Last year that would have been our second scoring line, yikes.
Boy does Torres look good. Two points and the GWA against his former team. Lots might not remember, but much like Ryan Malone after this season, Torres was the hot topic after the Oilers’ Stanley Cup run in 2006. It’s funny how players are all of a sudden MUST HAVES after a few good playoff games. Now, I’m not exactly a follower of Tampa Bay, but judging by their trouble scoring and their record I’m guessing that Ryan Malone at $6 M this year is a bit overpriced.
Other good news, stop me if you’ve heard this, Brassard is tearing up the league. Our rookie of the month for October notched another goal last night to bring his total to 12 points in 12 games. If only that fat idiot behind the bench would play him after the second period… get this, our LEADING SCORER played 3 shifts in the third.
Onto Jake Voracek. He added 2 more assists last night, bringing his total to 10 points (tied for second most on the team). It’s so fun watching this kid make plays. I was on the bike at the gym watching the game and I would see this behind the back, no-look, tape-to-tape pass. Not being able to see the numbers half the time (and having no audio) I usually had to follow the player… well after the 3rd beauty, each of which coming from Jake I began just accepting that if I saw a great pass it probably came from him.
My only beef with Jake is that he NEEDS TO SHOOT THE DAMN PUCK! They were on a 5-3 and he kept feeding it to Brassard when he had the lane open. From what the scouts say, he’s got a hell of a wrist shot. Maybe this is the fat guy behind the bench again…
Another bright spot, Steve Mason made his first start as an NHL goalie. He got the win, but it wasn’t exactly pretty. He did make some great saves though. Lots of scouts have compared him to Carey Price… boy wouldn’t that be nice. He doesn’t seem to have the buzz that Price had last season though. Look for a piece from me later about rookies and their hobby (sports card) impact. I think I might be able to tickle some fancies.
Next game is tomorrow night vs. the Canadiens. It’s gonna be a tough match-up. Maybe we see Mason vs. Price?
