His Time Is Now: Give John Cena Back The Belt

Chris BrowneNov 5, 2008
It may finally be the time that jealous Internet fans around the world hate.  It's finally the time for John Cena to take back the main event scene on Raw.
Lets face facts, Cena has been away from the title for far too long now.  As much as a majority of the Internet population hates it, Cena deserves time back in the limelight.
Now I'm as big a supporter as anyone for saying that I don't think Cena should have held the belt for as long as he did.  At the same time, the WWE kept the belt on him because, well, Cena did night after night what he did best. He performed.

Sure he's got a finisher that's a modified "Pimp Drop."  Sure everyone gets tired of the "superman Cena" moniker where he lays out Umaga (UMANGA), Khali, HBK, Orton, and everyone else on the Raw roster at the time.
But lets face it, who did they really have to drop the belt to without losing some prestige?  Khali?  Yeah we seen where that went on SD with that title reign. Its almost as big a mistake as giving Punk a title reign on Raw, but that is a topic for another day.
Flat out, HBK has lost his luster.  Hes getting older, so it's expected. Orton just was not selling as a champion, he is always better at the chase than the defense, same with Batista. Umaga wasnt going to get the belt anytime soon, so who else on Raw was going to take the belt?
Since coming back after the Royal Rumble, Cena surprised everyone in actually putting over not only Orton, but Triple H, which nobody expected to happen. Plus, let's face facts, Cena can work the mic like only few in the WWE today can, with one of those being Santino, who I think has shocked everyone.
But lets face it, Jericho as a heel is good, but he needs a credible face to feud with.  I think I speak for a majority of true WWE fans when I say that, Batista NEEDS some time away from the title scene.  He's received at least what, 75% of the title shots over the past year and a half?  He's always better at the chase, but the chase is only important when there is buildup for it.  Not PPV after PPV, oh here comes another title shot for Batista.
If they play their cards right, have Cena win the belt back in Boston at Survivor Series.  Have him feud with Jericho for a few PPV's, which could end up gold. Think of promos they can cut. Now think of the history, with the "You're Fired" match that put Jericho away (not like he was was leaving anyways, but for the value of the storyline).
Have Batista re-enter the main event scene at Royal Rumble, and take it back from Cena.  Then you have someone from SD win the Rumble (maybe Edge perhaps?) and have Cena win the title shot at Batista at WM25.
Now here is more hype for this huge match that they dropped the ball on at Summerslam.  In a Rock/Austin fashion, Batista two, Cena 0.  But when it comes to the third match, Cena wins the belt at WM, where he only has lost once, being last year.
The only problem with this is, well, unless you revisit Orton-HBK, or possibly do Jericho-Orton, this would leave Orton without a main event match after all the hype hes gathered the last few months.
With Raw being lackluster the past few months, it's fully within the WWE's power to pick everything back up again with careful planning.  It's on them to pick up that ball and run with it.
